I can't really feel saddened by this marriage ending. He had it coming and she deserves better. She also gets half his fortune, which IMHO she deserves for putting up with him for so long.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Six weeks after Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed he had fathered a child out of wedlock, his wife Maria Shriver filed divorce papers Friday to end their marriage of 25 years.

The former television journalist and Kennedy family heir cited irreconcilable differences but offered no additional details about the breakup.

She also did not list a date when the couple separated, although they announced they had done so on May 9.

A week later, the former action film star and former governor admitted he fathered a child with a member of his household staff years ago.

Shriver's filing does not indicate the couple has a prenuptial agreement, which likely means Schwarzenegger's earnings from his career as a Hollywood megastar will be evenly divided with his estranged wife.

The couple were married in 1986 and have four children together, including two sons who are still minors. Shriver's petition seeks joint custody of the couple's sons, ages, 17 and 13.

Schwarzenegger's spokesman Adam Mendelsohn declined comment in an email. Shriver's attorney Laura Wasser did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.

Shriver stood by her husband's side as he ran for California's governorship in 2003 even after the Los Angeles Times reported accusations by several women that they had been groped by the movie star.

Schwarzenegger later said he "behaved badly sometimes" and was twice elected to the governorship.

He failed to fix the state's chronic budget problems and left office in January with an eye toward environmental projects and a return to the big screen.

One of his projects was an animated collaboration with comic book legend Stan Lee titled "The Governator," but the project was shelved after Schwarzenegger admitted fathering the child out of wedlock.

Shriver placed her journalism career on hold while her husband served as governor, and her future has been more uncertain. She has appeared in videos posted on YouTube in which she talks about stress in her life, the weight of expectations and the search for faith in a troubled world.

The filing was first reported by celebrity website TMZ.

no matter how hard I try... I still cannot bring myself to care about this situation.

He's still my favorite action movie star. I couldn't give two shits if he had a million kids with women other than his wife.

Having had him as Governor for seven pretty lousy years, its schadenfreude for me at this point.

Don't get me wrong...he was a **** horrible governor. But that doesn't make him any less awesome as an action movie star.

Actually, Schwartzenegger appeared to be a pretty good governor, politically. The problem is the system is broken. The funny thing is, the new guy? He's going over the same ground Arnold went over, trying to do the same things. His competition was parroting all of Arnold's positions while at the same time trying to distance herself from him. All Arnold's tenure did was prove that without some major systemic reforms, California is screwed, no matter who wins.

Hey, if it weren't for our foolish old folk being bussed in to keep your casinos going your city would fail even worse than it has Easy Button Boy.

California might well be the worst place to live in the entire world.

Honestly don't care. He is another man in power behaving badly.

California was pretty cool back in the day. Almost ended up there. It was a choice between Texas and Cali based on where my son's father could get work.

Seriously, make of it what you will. I had some hate for it when I moved out here (well, actually more for Los Angeles), but after almost 20 years, I've come to like it a lot.

Arnold? I knew he wasn't going to be god's gift to governing, but, hey, they all liked him in the movies, and he used a lot of those quotes in office, so it was just more entertainment than anything else.

And I do like him as an action star. Heck, I was into him even before Terminator, loved the Conan movies. As a governor? Not so much.

Still not surprised. I'm more surprised at the people that are.

You know, I kinda hope she gets half of his money(though I have to imagine she has more money than he does anyway, but still). It would make it that much more likely he'd go back into the movie making business where he should have stayed.

no matter what else he did, this was the most incredibly awesome political veto ever. (Note the first letter on each line of the two main paragraphs.)

The target was San Francisco Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who had sponsored AB1176. The bill, which passed unanimously in the Assembly and Senate, would have granted the Port of San Francisco expanded financing power to redevelop a former shipyard into a new neighborhood known as Pier 70.
