Had my photorefractive keratectomy performed today. They used a custom programming with wavefront guidance to correct the cornea.. Unlike the LASIK procedures, this is original technique where they ablate the epithelial (the epidermis of the eye, as it were) and treat the cornea. I can already see quite a bit better and am excited to see how my vision will improve over the following weeks. Reading about how these excimer lasers work is pretty interesting, as I had been doing so for the past months.

It was kind of a weird experience, to be honest. But well worth it.

A good procedure, but has a far more painful recovery than Lasik.

I had intra lasik that used the wavefront mapping in January. My last appointment a couple of weeks ago I was at 20/20 one eye and 20/15 in the other. It has been so awesome to not have to use glasses anymore. I can wear regualr sunglasses in the summer without messing around with contacts. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

PRK - that's what I had done back in 2007.
Thinking I need to have my eyes checked, though. Seems it's degenerated a bit since the surgery, although it wasn't expected to.

I would like my eyes to be better. But they won't recommend anything for me. They say 20/10 in one and 20/15 in the other is fine.

How much was the procedure?

I might look into it but I do think I look good with glasses on.

Wish I was a candidate for either.

Bump.

So it's been 8 weeks or so and my eyes have reached 20/20 and will continue to improve. For those considering it, if you get recommended, I highly suggest it. It was by far the best money I've ever spent in my life.

Elmo, the rate was $2100 per eye at the two practices I ended up deciding between. Insurance was billed somewhere around $2500 and they cover $1000 per eye.
