DANVERS, Mass. (AP) - Authorities in Massachusetts say a family that got lost in a seven-acre corn maze called 911 for help, apparently taking advantage of the police department's motto that says "We Want To Be Bothered."

The maze at Connors Farm in Danvers can take up to an hour to navigate.

A police officer entered the maze with a farm manager to search for the disoriented father, mother and two children. The family didn't realize they had almost made their way out and were just 25 feet from the street.

Farm owner Bob Connors tells the Boston Globe (http://bo.st/p7Xmzr) that they designed the maze so that people get lost in the long corn stalks.

I think there should be a federal law forcing farmers to cut down all of their corn fields to keep people safe from getting lost in them.

So what do we outlaw here? Creating 7 acre corn mazes is obviously a public health hazard, and calling 911 because you are stupid is already against the law, right?

Seriously, how hard would it have been to put lift someone up or put someone on your shoulders and they could navigate you out....or even just walk through the corn stalks in a straight line, bypassing the paths in order to get out?

You are given a map at the one Oonagh and I go to locally. I wonder if this one does the same thing. I was about to say that this is truly ridiculous, but I noticed the police department's motto is "We want to be bothered." If thats the way they want to be known, then so be it. Let people who get lost in corn mazes call them. Still, come on people. Unless it was pitch dark out and completely devoid of other people, I can't see how they were unable to find their way out on their own. Even if the maze had no others in it at that moment, they are manned by staff, I would imagine. Yell for help, maybe???

Pretty sure they should get a ticket for a non-emergency call, there. "Hello? 911? I'm on the pot, and out of toilet paper. No, there isn't any in the house. Could you stop on the way and pick some up? Also, since you're stopping, it wouldn't kill you to grab a pizza."

Numbuk, TheRiov's actually got you there. You have to go into the maze using that rule from the start for it to be a guarantee. Most corn mazes probably don't make closed internal walls, though. That'd just be masochistic.

Well when I played Minecraft, tunnels often turned into mazes. So what I learned to do was put torches only on the right side of the walls. If I wanted to go back to where I started, just make sure the torches are always on the left. You can do this starting from any point in the maze and use the process of elimination to get out (make hay Xs on the ground on the right side). If you reach a dead end, follow the Xs back to the last fork and try another way.

I think we tackle the problem at its source. Going through a seven acre cornfield is stupid so if we make stupidity against the law we solve both problems.
