My birthday is in a week and a half and I need good ideas of what I want for my birthday.

With it being so close after the holidays, Oonagh is out of ideas as all of her gift shopping powers have been sapped by Christmas, and honestly I don't even know what I want, so I can't give her ideas.

I don't currently want (need) anymore video games as I barely have the time to catch up with which games I have. I have plenty of board games as, again, I have more than I seem to have the ability to find the time to play. No more movies or DVDs, either.

I was thinking that a gift card to Lowes would be nice, as I would like to be able to upgrade my tools and such. I don't have a real good collection of tools and I would like to start getting some good ones.

As I stated in Oonagh's car thread, it's been an expensive past year and I'd like to keep the price down, so something like an iPad would be a little much, well that and the fact since I would likely not share it with her, we'd have to buy another one.

I really am just flat out of ideas of what it is that I want for a birthday present. So throw your $0.02 out there. Maybe something will strike my fancy. Who knows.

Why a material gift at all, then? Find a special way to spend the day, go out for something nice to eat, and save money otherwise spent on a gift for a rainy day.

I always have a hard time recommending things to other people to buy for me.

I third Vlad's suggestion.

At this point in my life, I'm asking for the toys I wanted but never got as a kid. For instance, at Christmas I asked for a RC Helicopter.

Next I'll ask for a flight simulator so I can learn to fly the damn thing without crashing it.

Power tools are always an awesome thing to get :)

There're plenty of after xmas sales on stuff that you may want in that respect.

Power tools are nice. I just picked myself up a new compound miter box saw that I really like, as well as one of DeWalt's 12V tool sets- torque wrench and drill/driver set. Got both a little over half off on Black Friday.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that power tools and the like would be preferable as gifts at this point in my life.

Then I suggest an air compressor and a pneumatic tool set.

There's also a really, really nice "portable" air gun I've seen several places lately (if you're into tools, Garret Wade is a wonderful, wonderful website). Uses 12 or 20 oz compressed air cylinders with a belt clip/regulator good for 500-1000 shots with a nail/staple gun.

I also second getting a good compressor, they're useful in all sorts of ways.

On the subject of air compressors; I've been considering getting one recently.

The current impetus is I'd like to get a spraygun for my model painting. However, I don't want to deal with the ongoing expense of compressed air cylinders, and I've also observed that the kits that come with small tank compressors don't appear to be very satisfying in their consistency -- the pressure drops too fast.

So, I've got it in my head to buy a bigger compressor, with the intent to make it one that's suitable for multipurpose tool stuff down the road.

Any recommendations on brands, tank sizes, etc?

There is a difference between a 'big' compressor and a good quality compressor with an appropriately sized tank for your job. A small compressor is fine for detail work, nailers, etc... The size of the tank will determine the available air supply.

I have no idea of a good tank size for that application; I'd be most concerned with CFM at the pressure your attachment requires.

I'd get a nice corded drill. The cordless ones are a PITA.

No for him it is more appropriately titled "Macaroni and BJ day"

Oh trust me, you do NOT want Oonagh in the kitchen. She can burn a pot of water.

Her "expertise" lies elsewhere.
