| Post subject: | Best way to get a passport? |
Phe and I are going on our aforementioned cruise, and we need passports. Neither of us have ever gotten passports before...any tips? Best place to get one? We need it by around the 20th of May...do we need to expedite? |

My wife and I got ours through our local post office. Check, as not all post offices do them, but most do it seems. I think ours took maybe 3-4 weeks? They can take longer as I understand, but check with the place you are getting them and they should be able to provide some guidance. |

Always get them way ahead of your trip. 6-8 weeks is normally recommended. Look into it now and get your proof of identities in order. e.g. your birth certificates. In Australia, for your first passport, you have to pass an interview which must be booked about a week - 4 weeks in advance, depending on the area you're in. Not sure if the US needs this. |

Have the passport shots taken when you are looking your most exhausted and bedraggled. They will look more like you when traveling. |

We took our pictures at Wahlgreen and then we went to the local city clerk's office. IIRC it took about 4 weeks. |

Go now, you should get it in time. Post office is the easiest place. Just make sure you have a birth certificate with a seal! I got mine in 4 weeks. My cruise is less than 100 days now... |

Yes - post office, but not ALL post offices. Look it up on line for the branch you are going to. And yes, very much time to get moving on this. |
