I don't have a dog but if I did...it wouldn't bother me. |

You jump from "lick and put back in the cupboard" to "lick, wash and sanitize". What about just "lick and wash"? I'm not sure what this extra sanitize step is supposed to entail. |

An extra rinse in water with a little bit of bleach in it. But we don't sanitize ours, it's lick and wash. Guess I should have made two options there. |

Dogs have relatively clean mouths. You'd be more likely to have issues with a human licking a plate. |

No, but not for the reasons you listed. |

When we had a dog, we let him lick the dishes in the open dishwasher. It's going to get run anyhow. Don't see a problem. |

Don't know why it's such a popular rumor that dogs have "cleaner" mouths than humans. My answer is no, not because of sanitary issues, but because of discipline issues. My dogs don't eat from my plate, whether I'm done or not. |

Yea, I don't have pets anymore, but I wouldn't let them eat off of my plate. It's just not something i want them to think is OK. They need to know that the only food they should be eating is in their bowl... |

Yes, but for the reason Lenas, TheRiov, Aethien, and Midgen state I only allow him to lick the plate when it is placed on the ground in his feeding area. He knows that's the only place he eats, and doesn't try to touch food left out anywhere else. |

Yes, I'm the same way. Dishes placed next to her food bowl. It's a little annoying in that she freaks out when I stand up from the table, but hey. My wife, on the other hand, likes to place them in the middle of the kitchen so when I walk around the corner I kick them across the room. |

I put the dish on the floor. There's never been confusion between what's mine and what's his. |
