Twelve MILLION SHU on the Scoville scale. http://www.ohgizmo.com/2012/12/11/this- ... ut-butter/ Oh'Gizmo wrote: The Instant Regret peanut butter is aptly named: it’s infused with so much capsaicin (the active ingredient that makes something spicy) that we’re having trouble believing there isn’t a typo somewhere, and if there isn’t, you’re guaranteed to regret its ingestion! See, Instant Regret peanut butter is rated at 12 million SHU on the Scoville Scale. That… is troubling. Police grade pepper spray is somewhere in the vicinity of 2 million SHU. The last time we reported on some spicy thing, it was Timmy’s Great Balls of Fire which rated at a tame 1 million SHU. To further the perspective, a Habanero pepper is around 200,000 SHU, and Taco Bell’s Fire Sauce 500. So, 12 million SHU is quite a few orders of magnitude higher. The ingredients are as follows:
Ingredients wrote: Peanuts, Sunflower Oil, Habanero, King Naga, 12m [SHU] Chilli Extract, Sugar Syrup, Salt Yeah, so there you have it. Seriously spicy peanut butter. We still think there may be some typo, as some of our readers will undoubtedly express skepticism. We would suggest one of you try it out and report back to us, but we worry about encouraging any activity that might result is injury. It’s £7 or about $12 a jar. |

One of the minor ingredients is a 12 million Scoe hot chili sauce. The peanut butter itself will be way milder, probably down to around 100k a tablespoon. I would try it. |

There's no way of knowing exactly how much of the extract they used, but adulterated brands of peanut butter add about 1g of sugar per 32g of product. From the order of the list, we can guess they used at least 1g of extract. I did some back-of-the-napkin calculations and came up with about 450,000 SHU for the final product, if they only used about 1g of the 12M SHU extract. They could have used more, but the point is that it's highly unlikely that they exceeded 1M SHU. Although it's not common, people have been known to die from pepper spray exposure. Marketing a 2M, let alone 12M SHU substance as a food item would be an exceedingly bad idea even if there's not specifically any law against it. Edit: Here's a Fun Fact(TM) for the day: Another study, published in Drug and Chemical Toxicology, showed that for a person of average weight, in good health, would have to consume close to two quarts of Tabasco Sauce to be rendered unconscious. Good times. |

People, this is PEANUT BUTTER we're talking about here.. It sticks to everything! The roof of your mouth, teeth, gums, inner ear... I can't imagine a worse combination of substances to combine than something as sticky peanut butter and a substance that will blister your skin (given sufficient exposure). |

Why do you think I want it so much? Spicy peanut butter toast with chocolate milk... Mmmm |

Yeah I really doubt that a small sample is 12 million Scoville. 450k sounds more realistic. Hotter than an habanero by about 200k, but still less than half a ghost chili. I'd probably try some. But then I enjoy ghost chili picante sauce. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 |

That, plus why in the **** would you want to combine hot flavor with peanut butter flavor? Ewww.. |

What's the conversion factor between scoville units and moles per liter? |

I have no clue Corolinth. As it is currently sold only in Europe the taste is a moot point for most of us, for now. |

1 part capsaicin per million is about 15 SHU. That might help you convert. The hottest substance known (or at least that I can find) is Resiniferatoxin at 16 billion SHU. It is estimated that 40g is a fatal dose if ingested. |
