Regarding Buffalo Wild Wings' Blazin' Challenge, I just have one question to all the challengers:

Why so serious?

$12.00? Ridiculous. I used to get a dozen Blazin' on $.25-wing Tuesdays.

They still have some promotional deals like that, but they are the boneless wings. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of wings (though I do like the sauce). But I am a fan of inter-office bragging rights.

Heh. Nah I'm not like that. In fact I did a test run of the challenge last night and all systems were normal. I am a fan of spicy things. I eat a lot of Vindaloo as hot as the restaurants can make it, so suffice it to say I've built up a tolerance to spice in all aspects of my body.

Inflation. Despite what Numbuk said, the local ones around here still do $.45 wing Tuesdays. As well as $.55 boneless Thursdays.

Of course, there's a "buy 12 get 5 free" on a local booster card that I got for $10. Let me tell you, that's paid for itself several times over.

Back in college I used to be able to make it through 4 Blazin', but even the bragging rights weren't worth the awful taste or the gastrointestinal protestations that followed. Go too hot on their sauces and it just starts tasting like vinegar.

And besides.. B-dub's Parmesean Garlic is, perhaps, the most glorious wings sauce ever invented.

Ooo now I want wings... on a Friday in Lent. Sigh.

Actually, I've always thought Blazin' was their most flavorful sauce.

Did you give up chicken wings for Lent?

Yeah it really isn't too bad at all. I think their mango habanero sauce is actually a little hotter, possibly because of how it's made. And I actually prefer that one as well, as I like a little sweet with my heat.

If you're like me who buys picante sauce made from ghost chilies, then the blazin' sauce isn't a big deal. Though if you don't eat a lot of really spicy foods, I'd still warn against it.

Edit: Another note, my face is still burning a little bit from the sauce, though not enough to really be annoying. Part of the challenge is that they are slathered in far, far more sauce than the standard wings that are served. On top of that, they serve them right out of the fryer at 200 degrees Fahrenheit (which I think is cheating a little). And then on top of that, you aren't allowed napkins, a drink, dipping sauces (no ranch, bleu cheese, etc.) and no wiping your face. All within 6 minutes.

And I did have to sign a waiver which did say I wouldn't sue them over illness or death. I found that a little funny.

We had a bar called Sharkey's that had 911 wings as their hottest when I was in college. If you could eat 16 in 10 minutes without drinking anything, you got a t-shirt and your name on the 911 challenge wall.

The success rate was around 1 in 4.

Nice. That's the kind of challenge that I want.

Man vs Food had an episode in Salt Lake City where his challenge was to eat four really hot sushi rolls. The chef makes 7 rolls, each ramping up in heat. When someone is interested in the challenge, he serves them the first three of the seven just to see if they can get that far before truly issuing the challenge. Supposedly not many folks make it that far to even start the real challenge.

I've been tempted to go give that a try one of these days, as I've become a much bigger fan of sushi over the past year.

I love, love, love spicy food. Unfortunately I am among the many who's lower body is less favorable, and I get to suffer when I indulge too much.

Here's a funny article about deadly hot wings:

Quote:
Upon completing the challenge, I was congratulated and then given a single latex glove. “For when you use the bathroom,” a staff member explained. It was expert advice that I failed to heed just once accidentally. I spent the next 20 minutes or so cursing the very idea of external genitals. I wouldn’t make the same mistake again.

Congratulations Numbuk, and love the shirt!

Yea, I can't do spicy stuff any more. But I do like that shirt.

Thanks guys! I wore it specifically knowing I would have my picture taken for all to see at the restaurant. ;-) It's my favorite shirt of all time since it mashes up two of my favorite things: Army of Darkness and DooM (a game which Raell and I share a birthday with).

I originally bought it as one of teefury.com's daily deals. But it looks like the artist has moved his design over to the more permanent (and unfortunately not quite as cheap) redbubble. You can find one here if you're interested.

My favorites are a little to the right of 'medium' : Desert Heat (for when I'm in a dry-rub mood), Caribbean Jerk, and Thai Curry.

I also really like their Desert heat, and spicy garlic and hot/hot bbq. For extra fun, get some of the desert heat seasoning and put it on your fries, delicious.

Also, the shirt is a little similar to one of my recent favorites I've bought:

I refuse to allow age to prevent me from eating spicy foods.

I just want to be able to taste my food, spicy or not. I don't need it so darned hot I cant taste and enjoy the food.

I'll eat the spicy once in a while. The heat doesn't bother me, I kind of like it actually. The after effects anymore are annoying, so i do it only occasionally.

Oh, I have to say hot hot hot before the Indian restaurant gives me anything besides medium. Of course those who haven't burned their taste buds out can rarely take the mild, much less the medium.

Instead of Tabasco, try Dave's Insanity Sauce. be careful. Makes a nice Bloody Mary.

My white co-worker has to have his indian cube-mate order his indian take out. They refuse to give him the true hotness. The first time he showed up, the guy balked and almost wouldn't give it to him.

"Spicy" really about the only indulgence left that I can enjoy. "Fat" is out (mostly), Sweet/Sugar is out... Salty is out (mostly).

I have a huge stage of spicy sauces and stuff in the fridge at work.
