In most conditions man gets pawned.

If you have your own personal Blackfish recollections or questions please contribute.

Well it's blackfish at play in Hermitage Bay
From Pushthrough across to Bois Island.
They broach and they sprout and they lift their flukes out
And they wave to a town that is dying.
Now it's many's the boats that have plied on the foam,
Hauling away! Hauling away!
But there's many more fellows been leaving their homes,
Where whales make free in the harbour.
It's at Portage and Main you'll see them again
On their way to the hills of Alberta.
With lop-side grins, they waggle their chins
And they brag of the wage they'll be earning.
Then it's quick, pull the string boys, and get the loot out,
Haul it away! Haul it away!
But just two years ago you could hear the same shout
Where the whales make free in the harbour.
Free in the harbour; the blackfish are sporting again
Free in the harbour; untroubled by comings and goings of men
Who once did persue them as oil from the sea,
Hauling away! Hauling away!
Now they're Calgary roughnecks from Hermitage Bay,
Where the whales make free in the harbour.
Well, it's living they've found, deep in the ground,
And if there's doubts, it's best they ignore them.
Nor think on the bones, the crosses and stones
Of their fathers that came there before them.
In the taverns of Edmonton, fishermen shout
Haul it away! Haul it away!
They left three hundred years buried up the Bay
Where the whales make free in the harbour.
Free in the harbour; the blackfish are sporting again
Free in the harbour; untroubled by comings and goings of men
Who once did persue them as oil from the sea,
Hauling away! Hauling away!
Now they're Calgary roughnecks from Hermitage Bay,
Where the whales make free in the harbour

That is awesome Michael. I had never seen that before.

As far as I can see most marine biologists are pretty far off base in their work on "these" species.

The one pictured here is not the only species, In the Gulf of Mexico there are blackfish that
appear more closely related to bottle-nose dolphin.

Most probably yes but very difficult to obtain. They more than comfortable in competing
with man.

Are you sure you're not Japanese Lydiaa? They are oceanic dolphins, way larger than Flipper and frequently mistaken for whales.

Short answer, yes, but very fatty. They are not poisonous, and they are carnivores - big surprise most large marine life is.

Long answer, ask the cooks here if they would/could prepare them and how they would do it if they would. Some folk have ethical concerns about eating them.

Hehe... I just had a smoked salmon sandmich this morning for breaky, while reading this thread, and the random thought popped into my head.

In other news.. is it lunch yet?

I like fish. We used to have a trick where we would catch a black grouper and fillet him alive,
laugh when the spasming meat hit the hot grease. So I empathise with your taste for sea-food.

I think marine mammals are pretty widely protected by "law" though, still a few lotteries as I understand.

Lydia, these creatures are known to train other species.

hmm.. i for one bow down to our new slimy overlords hehe...

I did a quick read up on them but couldn't find anything about them training other species. Would you happen to have a linky which I could steal?

The only link I can provide you is memory, and not only my own.

Individuals from schools of bottle-nose and spinner dolphins have been observed to fall in with the blackfish and exhibit behaviour otherwise unexpressed in other encounters.

I thought you meant "training," like in EQ. You know, like the Blackfish drag fisherman over to other sea creatures so they get caught, and not the Blackfish.

MMOs have polluted my brain.

I'm glad I can correct myself, schools don't apply to dolphins, it struck me after I posted.

In the crossed aim hunting that went on between blackfish and different boats what you were suggesting falls very close to the truth. To drop a blackfish off on a boat catching fish was a real
issue.
