Just a matter of course, the syllable count matters a lot less than the procedural elements when writing haiku in English. |

Not sure why you would limit yourself to post-Heian tankas, Michael. Waka and kanshi are both fantastic genres though. |

Waka covers a lot of ground, tankas are just part of it. Haiku is too formalized to be much fun anymore. For the most part, we Americans (including me) just don't get Japanese poetry, but from what I hear, they aren't real sure about Limericks. |

No but one of the forms does pair tanka together as question and answer. |
