Hey gang,

I'm looking at putting together a new PC soon, and one of my goals is to be able to run WoW on the highest settings possible, something I've never been able to do. So I thought I might list out the pieces I was looking at getting and seeing if you guys thought it'd be up to the task. My budget is roughly $1200

CPU: i5 750 4x2.66GHz/8MG l3 cache
Mobo: EVGA P55 w/ 2x Gb LAN, 3x PCI-E 2.0 x16
Memory: 4 GB [2 GB X2] DDR3-1600 Memory Module
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 - 1.2GB
PSU: 700W SLI ready
HD: 320 GB HARD DRIVE -- 16M Cache, 7200 RPM, 3.0Gb/s

Would this basically be able to handle WoW on high graphics while raiding well enough?

Thanks for any possible feedback or input. :)

You can get more bang for the buck if you go AMD/ATI.

The ATI 5 series vid cards are still the best as far as I know. Nvidia is still behind. (Edit: Oh, looks like they finally got around to releasing a DX11 part. Still, more expensive, hotter, and louder than the ATI Offerings.)

AMD Phenom IIx4 965 black with a Radeon 5850 1gb would be about in the sweet spot I think ;)

Thank you for the help Müs. The 5850 1gb does seem like a better value. So that's solved.

For the CPU, the 965 BE seems to be much faster then the i5 750 without any OC'ing. Am I correct in believing that WoW performance has a better impact on CPU speed then almost anything else?

Seems like I should definitely go with the 965 at 3.4 instead of the 2.6 i5 750. Unless I'm missing something.

Thanks for your post. It's been very helpful.

With that vid and proc, you should be able to run wow with no issues.

Especially if you have 4gb+ of memory as well.
