I'd like to use one on my account. I have an Itouch that typically is always kept around my desktop anyway. Would I be better off using my itouch with the authenticator app, or should I just spring for the stand alone one? |

The mobile authenticator app is free. You can also install it and set it up instantly, instead of having to waiting for the dongle to ship. On the other hand, the app has an 8 digit number instead of 6 (little more inconvenient to type in), and if your iPod Touch's batteries die or needs to be factory reset, then you'll lose your authenticator. In my opinion, the mobile authenticator is fine. |

Yeah, I definitely saw the warnings about being reset. From what I can tell, if I write down & keep the original serial # used to attach it to my account, I should be ok and just need a phone call to blizzard to resolve it if it ever becomes an issue. I bought a stand-alone before I had a smart-phone (before they were really available to anything but an iphone, really). I use it on my keychain, which has had standard wear and tear that things on the keychain do. It's still going strong, over a year and a half later. |
