Yeah people who roll need on things for roles they didn't join the group as, do irritate me. I did a lot of random dungeons on my DK to get him somewhat geared when I would start doing heroics (pre cata). There's nothing worse for a group with a tank who barely hit 80 and thinks he can tank heroics. My goal was to avoid that as much as possible (mission accomplished, too). But in the process, I had to acquire some decent blues to do it.

One of the DPSers rolled need on an item that had parry on it, and he won. It irked me a lot. The other dpser started defending him, which irked me even more. "This gear doesn't matter anyways." Then why roll need on it? Yes in the long term I won't be using it. But in the short term I want to make sure I am not the weakest link when it comes to dungeons.

I always, ALWAYS, ask the group if I can roll on something that isn't the role I joined the group as. It's common courtesy. 9 times out of 10 the party is cool with it.

I'll often roll need on OS items, but in general I will ask if anyone minds before I do it. If the group is a bunch of jerks, I won't ask, I'll just roll need. If the MS rolls and is competent and polite, I'll pass.

I've worn a few pieces of tank gear in my DPS set right now, because I haven't gotten decent drops and the tank gear is better than the DPS gear I had, this early in the game that's overly critical IMHO.

As for the healer, doing that to a random group is rude in the extreme IMHO and I'd have been looking to boot the healer. If the healer said that they needed to afk and would be 5-10 min, and everyone was ok with that then that's something else. But honestly I wouldn't expect anyone to wait for me in a random group for that long, nor would I do that to those folks I'm grouped with.

I had some one like that a couple months ago. Priest that rolled need on everything no matter what. I then rolled need on a staff I think it was(Prot Paly mind you). He then raged demanding to know why I rolled and took his upgrade. Its vendor price upgraded my piggy bank.

I have to confess I am guilty of rolling on tank gear when in a DPS role, but then again, it was one of my first instance runs ever in the game I had only been playing for less than 2 weeks, so I chalk it up to n00bness.

As far as wearing tank gear while in a DPS role -- well for me personally, sometimes that the best I have in that slot. I figure as I progress more in the game, I'll have more options.

Had a tank drop the group because a hunter rolled need on an AGI/STA ring with Crit and Haste

The jerk-offs in this game are really starting to kill my desire to keep playing.
