He should have had it in a proper holster or had the safety on. There's no excuse for improper gun safety.

Well, the "shooter" is 17, so I don't think he should have been carrying a gun into school into the first place. If you're dumb enough to carry a loaded pistol in your backpack into school, you're probably dumb enough to not remember (or even understand how) to put the safety on.

I just heard in the car that he's being charged with two felony counts. So much for your life, son. Dumb ****.

Not of age to purchase or use, in a gun free zone, in a state with very very strict requirements. In my opinion, the fact that it happened proves the futility and misdirected efforts of the gun control lobby. I wish folks would treat firearms like sex education. Teach kids about it so when they encounter it, they will have at least a basic understanding of how to be safe.
