An Italian divorcee and her new lover are accused of killing her ex-husband Calogero Lo Cocco by suffocating him with a block of butter shoved down his throat.
They had apparently hoped the evidence would melt away, investigators say.
But a post-mortem found remains of the butter in the airways of the victim and the pair were unmasked, the Corriere della Sera newspaper reported Saturday.
On Wednesday Lo Cocco, 40, had gone back to the marital home he had not visited since his divorce, where his ex-wife lived with her new boyfriend at Campobello di Licata near Agrigente in southern Sicily.
They had set upon him and suffocated him with the butter, before claiming he had arrived drunk and attacked them, forcing them to tie him up, when he had suddenly collapsed and died.

I'd be willing to bet it was the volume of butter involved. Very few people consume a quarter pound of butter all by itself, much less in one sitting.

Doubt it had anything to do with the amount of butter in his stomach. Finding a good amount of butter in the lungs would make it obvious that it was impeding his airways and he was forced to inhale it as he gasped for life.

On a side note, he would have to have been fully restrained and tied before they started with the butter. I mean, you don't attack someone with butter.

So they tied this dude up, and, with butter, started to cram it in his mouth, watching him choke, watching him struggle, and slowly die.

I don't understand how people can do stuff like this. I understand how you could shoot someone, or even stab them 57 times (get upset, freaked out, keep stabbing). But I don't get this sort of thing.

Maybe she should have tried ice.
