http://www.macombdaily.com/articles/201 ... 459127.txt Quote: A Pontiac woman’s alleged theft attempt was foiled this week when her motorized cart became stuck at a Rochester Hills Meijer. Jerrie Perkins, 30, is charged with unarmed robbery, resisting and obstructing a police officer and second-degree retail fraud. Her bond was set at $15,000 by 52-3 District Magistrate Nick Camargo during arraignment Thursday. Investigators said Perkins was attempting to leave the Rochester Road Meijer with more than $600 worth of stolen electronic merchandise when her cart got stuck and she was unable to drive out the door. The door alarm was activated when Perkins passed through it around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, and Meijer employees approached her asking for a receipt for the items. Perkins — approximately 5 foot 2 and 400 pounds — shoved a loss prevention officer and hit her in the face, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. A sheriff’s deputy arrived and asked Perkins to put her hands behind her back, but she “cursed at the deputy, balled her right hand into a fist and took a fighting stance,” according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office. The deputy pulled his Taser and told Perkins to put her hands behind her back, but Perkins brought her fist up over her head and looked directly at the deputy. The deputy Tasered Perkins, who then complied with the deputy’s commands and was taken to jail. |

I think rule number one of retail shoplifting is "be able to outrun the security." It's pretty clear 5'2, 400 lbs wasn't. |

Don't be disorderly, don't get tasered. Pretty much common sense. |

The image of a 5'2" 400 pound woman taking up a "fighting stance" is the best part. |

It took me a few seconds to figure out if those were fat rolls or boobs. And the skinny one - that's a woman, right? |

It appears to be a woman on the left. Her hair is back, she's wearing earrings and a necklace. That could be a woman's style shirt and I think I see breasts contorting the shirt, but she does look a little masculine. |

No matter what law enforcement might have you to believe, tasers are much less than 100% effective. If you are struck with projectiles, drop to one knee, and begin coiling the filaments rapidly around your hand and elbow. When you have the excess coiled, jerk the filaments out of the gun. The weapon may be reloaded at this point. If you made it this far the next shot probably won't be as accurate. |

Law enforcement never claims TASERs are 100% effective. I've pointed out a number of their disadvantages on this board quite a few times. As for your tactic, that is pretty much impossible unless the TASER malfunctions. The electrical pulse begins immidiately when the darts strike, assuming they both bite since a circuit must be completed. There is no time to coil filament. More importantly, it will put you down if the circuit is completed. All the weaknesses of the weapon involve the unreliability of the darts, not the unreliability of the electrical pulse. Very, very few people can resist the electrical pulse, if any. I have been hit by it; you cannot fight it. You could, conceiveably, do what you stated after the pulse ends, but it would be very easy to pull the trigger and deliver another pulse while the person was trying to grab the filiment and wrap it. Then, there's the fact that if you drop to one knee, you're already going at least partway down and taking a position of disadvantage - which is rathe the goal of using the TASER in the first place. Maybe not as bad as going all the way down, but still far from advantageous. Then, we come to reloading. Yes, the weapon could be reloaded, but reloading the TASER is not easy; it requires more fine motor control than reloading a pistol, so the user is likely to transition to some other weapon at this point. That could be pepper spray, a baton, or possibly a firearm depending on what you were doing afterwards. Getting hit with any of those is a lot less fun than the TASER; pepper spray can give you 45 minutes of agony as opposed to 5 seconds. I know, I've taken a hit from that too. The baton is going to hurt like hell at the very least and in a fight you may not get struck in some damage-resistant place like the front of the thigh. People don't tend to hold nice and still like training dummies. Finally, you may not know that the TASER does not need the darts to work. It has probes on the end, so with or without a cartridge it can be pressed against you and the trigger pulled to deliver a pulse. This will be less effective than the darts since the probes are a lot closer together but it will still hurt like hell and have some effects. I don't know where you learned this "yank the wires out" trick, but I think you would be... disappointed in the results if you ever actually tried it. |

You sound very much like an armchair expert, like those kids who play Counter Strike and think they know about guns in RL. |

Do you literally lose the ability to control your muscles, or does it just hurt too much to think straight? Speaking of thinking, what happens to your thought processes - are they disrupted directly or, again, does it just hurt too much to think clearly? |

Your muscles pretty much just cramp up and spasm, you can't really control them. It hurts bad, but the pain is gone as quickly as it comes on. |

Speaking of thinking, what happens to your thought processes - are they disrupted directly or, again, does it just hurt too much to think clearly? Well, I ahve only been hit by the darts, not by the drive-stun where the TASER itself is pressed against you, but since that is by all accounts less effective I can only assume it is a lesser version of what I've experienced. Basically it feels like a hundred charlie horses at once, spread between the points where the darts hit. In my case it was alligator clips because we had two dozen guys to do and they cost IIRC $20+ a pop. You lose the ability to control the muscles between the contact points because the electricity passing between them is much more powerful than your brain's signals. It pretty much does hurt too much to tink straight. I screamed like a little girl. However, it does not hurt so much that you can't think at all, and the effects pass almost immidiately when the current stops. Nothing happens to your thoughts directly, electricity follows the path of least resistance so it does not normally get to the brain. The major muscle groups are the preferred target. |

Wrong - One Knee was sufficient to absorb the initial voltage. As I said the look on the Deputy's face was priceless and bork you personally. |
