Oh, now I see why this is in Heckfire. It also suggests we cruicified a Congressional candidate for commenting on a politically uncomfortable but apparently legitimately plausible scientific theory... Original Post's article wrote: Other recent findings from Gallup’s laboratory suggest that semen-exposed women perform better on concentration and cognitive tasks and that women’s bodies can detect 'foreign' semen that differs from their long-term or recurrent sexual partner’s signature semen.
They suggest the ability to detect foreign sources is an evolved system that often leads to unsuccessful pregnancies - via greater risk of preeclampsia - because it signals a disinvested male partner who is not as likely to provide for the offspring. |

Well he still had a key misunderstanding of the theory, which is that a woman's body can only defend against rape pregnancy if she's already got a long-term partner. Which says nothing about the possibility of being raped by said partner. |

Look, I'm not defending the guy. I'm just revelling in the delicious irony inherent in the situation of the Democrats attacking a Republican for trying (even unsuccessfully) to base his policy on science. |

It was the phrase "legitimate rape" that got people's tempers boiling not his misunderstanding of the science. The phrase contains the implication that most rapes are false or that women should be blamed if they got pregnant from rape |

It wasn't the idea that a woman had a greater chance of not getting pregnant from rape (or with an non-involved partner, or a number of other things) but rather the implication that if she did get pregnant, it was because she wanted to. A biological bias towards something not happening does not equate to a "choice". |

None of the previous five posts are really continuing in the spirit of the original post. I am not sure if I should show this article to my husband. "You know, Jackie, you seem a little down today. Here. I'll take care of you..." |

TheRiov wrote: It was the phrase "legitimate rape" that got people's tempers boiling not his misunderstanding of the science. The phrase contains the implication that most rapes are false or that women should be blamed if they got pregnant from rape It doesn't contain the implication that most rapes are false. It contains the implication that there is a nontrivial instance of false rape accusation, which is true. Just like any other "violence against women" issue, however, the left can't allow any discussion of that because it would destroy the ability to use it to paint the right the way they want to. Cases like Tawana Brawley and the Duke Rape Case represent things that happen every day in this country. I've had soldiers in my unit accused of mass rape of a female whose story came apart in less than a quarter of an hour of just trying to take a basic police report. The right really needs to stop apologizing for incidents like the "legitimate rape" one aside from acknowledging the man's poor phrasing. When these comments are met with outrage, the right needs to start telling the outraged to shut the **** up, and that these sorts of attempts to say "you can only talk about rape the way we say is acceptable because we are [allegedly] rape victims" will no longer be treated as serious. Rape is a crime like any other crime and it must be proven beyond reasonable doubt. |

Look, stop taking a perfectly good thread about the mental health benefits of cum-swallowing and making it about idiotic partisan political posturing. |
