This goes OK in health and fitness, right?!

So I've got a pair of old shotguns that I love shooting, passed down for generations.

I want to make sure, however, that I'm not damaging them- especially in regards to proper rounds.

The one I'm most worried about is a 1915 LC Smith Field 16 Gauge- should I be shooting low pressure loads? I'm starting to think it might be wise. It's a solid gun, but at nearly 100, I want to make sure it keep shooting for my kids to use.

Similarly, is there anything different you guys can think of I should do in terms of cleaning & care? I tend to clean and oil it like I would any of my other guns.

If it were me, I'd prolly take it into a gun shop and have it serviced. Once they've evaluated it I'd ask their direction about what kind of loads to use and best ways to maintain it as a working antique.

Well, no one reputable that I'd trust with the guns. I've asked around, and can't find anyone even remotely worth taking them to.

I have a friend who took an 80 year old antique into a shot that specialized in them (or said they did) got it back rusted all to hell. Turns out, the guy stores all the guns he's working on in a shed. Outside. That leaks.

Ugh a gun that old I'd want scoped to check for microfractures and tiny rust spots.

Take a vacation, find a good place to take it.

Get a good light and shine it down the barrel - if there isn't obvious pitting and corrosion you should be good to go.
