I am posting this in Health and Fitness because it probably applies to outdoor activities like cycling and running, but it really applies to driving, and just every day life.

It explains why we sometimes don't 'see' things that are obviously in our field of vision.

This perfectly explains exactly what happened when I was hit by a car a year and a half ago, despite the fact that the driver looked pretty much straight at me, and I was wearing a high-vis orange jersey and white helmet (contrast).

The driver stated that she never saw me until she hit me.
