Cinco de Mayo is the start of the official summer margarita season. This is not to say that you can't have a margarita any time of year, but the summer ones are special.

Summer margaritas are made in huge pitchers with traditional ingredients, and mixed extra strong because the ice will water them down. There's plenty of fresh lime and rock salt, and fresh glasses for refills.

Fall margaritas are served in tumblers because you've already dropped all your margarita glasses. They are raspberry or blueberry and blended, and served with a float, because we miss summer and need the extra booze.

Winter margaritas are served in martini glasses, shaken to chill and poured. They are jewel tones to match holiday party dresses. Pomegranate and blue curacao are often involved.

Spring margaritas are hopeful. They are in the new margarita glasses and may include fruits like strawberry and melon. They are sipped because it's still chilly out on the back porch.

Any favourite margarita recipes out there?

Mus, these are supposed to be margarita recipes, not recipes for disastrous hangovers.

Raf's margarita recipe:

5 oz of Corzo Silver.

Shoot.

Eat a lime sometime later in the evening. Chex Mix provides the salt.

Oh and for Cinco, "cheleda" style beer cocktails are great.

Those were some good days ...

But that's what Margaritas are for :P

I make them one drink at a time, since I usually only have one per day...

tequila
margarita mix
squeeze of fresh lime juice

over ice (not blended) no salt

sometimes I will add a splash of Grand Marnier
sometimes I will add some pomegranate juice

(and sometimes I will even go back for another  )

Not really, the tequila is a large part if the flavour profile.

/agree Taamar

But you might enjoy a virgin margarita or a virgin strawberry margarita. They aren't the same thing but they taste okay.

I was going to say the same thing as Taamar, yesterday, but I realized that some people enjoy virgin margaritas and I don't have enough experience with them to offer any suggestions.

I was going to note that without the tequila (or other alcohols), it's just a smoothie. Or a slushy. Just get a lime Icee :)

Oh, I'm not saying a virgin margarita isn't tasty, but it doesn't taste the same AT ALL. Of course, if the purpose of a drink is to remove all taste of booze (and for a lot of people it is) then just leave the booze out!

2 oz. Aha Toro (any variety) tequila
1 oz. Grand Marnier
1 lime
margarita salt

Cut up lime into 8 sections, reserve 1
Pre-prepare martini glass with salted rim
Fill shaker 1/3 with ice and add lime sections
muddle the hell out of it
Add tequila and Grand Marnier
Shake the hell out of it.
Pour into glass, squeeze and drop in lime section.
Alternatively pour over rocks.

One of my favorite subjects of late. Thanks, Taamar.

3 oz. 1800 Silver Select Tequila (100% de Agave, 100 proof. High quality, low-ish cost for Tequila...works better in mix than Patron Silver and costs half as much.)
2 oz. Triple Sec (brand irrelevant)
1 oz. Grand Marnier
1 oz. Lime Juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
Optional: 2 oz. of your favorite cheap citrus blend (Five Alive - Passionate Peach is great.)

Fill shaker with ice, pour ingredients over ice and shake. Pour into margarita glasses rimmed with salt. Garnish with lime slices. Serves 3-4.

7-9oz serving 3-4? No wai.

That's one margarita!
