What medicine did they give you? I'm on Bystolic. I wonder how they determine what to put you on. Everyone I speak to that has high BP is on something different.

edit - spelled it wrong

I think doc's have their favorites, and then they try different ones if they don't get the results they want. So many different ones with slightly different actions. Good luck keeping the BP under control!

Hmm, my prescription was only 10, the major known side effect is a persistent dry cough. I had that and stopped taking it, cough went away.

Bye bye processed meat, ALL fast food, most ethnic food, especially Mexican, Indian, Chinese, heck anything from southeast Asia. Canned foods, well, just read the labels. Frozen foods, also, read the labels.

Say hello to water, only safe thing to drink anymore it seems. Tea is okay, coffee probably not so. Soda, especially diet, right out. Juices have too much sugar.

Fresh veggies are good, grill your meats without BBQ sauce, fresh fruit, read the nutritional information whenever you eat out.

No more pocky.

Once you have your blood pressure under control you can work with your doctor on the types of foods you enjoy and want to reintroduce to your diet.

Remember, you are the person at risk. You are the one likely to keel over with cardiac arrest or stroke if you don't take care of you.

Maybe. I never added it much to food to begin with, compared to my friends. Stopped entirely after the high blood pressure demon was discovered.

Oh man...no wonder I have a persistant cough...Lisinopril, 40mg AND hydrochlorothiazide 25mg...methinks my doctor likes to prescribe too many meds!!

My mother had high blood pressure so I grew up not using salt in foods...now I only use a very light dust of seasalt on certain foods, like meat. Most food, even raw, has sodium in it, so you don't need much if any to enhance the natural flavors. I prefer to use garlic instead of salt anyway.

we use NoSalt at home. Lisa has issues with too much salt and excess water retention.

Nope! I never use salt. VERY RARELY. Even less now, though, now that I'm trying to eat healthy(er).
