So this Saturday is my friend's and mine 2nd Annual Fruity Drink Party! We had a lot of fun last year trying new drinks and cocktails so we decided to do it again, and invite some more people this time. Here's one of two new recipes I'm going to try this year:

Cucumber Collins
SUMMER 2009
BY MICHELLE P. E. HUNT AND LAURA PANTER

To a cocktail shaker, add 1⁄2 cup peeled and chopped cucumber. Muddle to extract all of the juices. Fill the shaker with ice and add 1 1⁄2 oz gin, 1⁄2 oz lime juice and 1⁄2 oz simple syrup*. Shake and strain into a tall glass filled with ice. Top with 2 to 3 oz soda water and garnish with a cucumber slice and fresh blueberries.

*To make simple syrup, cook equal parts sugar and water over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Cool and refrigerate.

I'm hoping it will be nice and hot (like the whole summer has been!) as this sounds like it will be super refreshing on a hot day.

anyways, what exactly is "muddling" in this situation? It sounds like you put the cucumber in a shaker and then just shake it around for a bit? Do you squish it with a spoon or something? Never "muddled" something before so I'm rather curious.

Thanks fellow cocktail chefs!

Ohhhhh...like in the mojitos commercial he is muddling the mint leaves, right? Sweet. I finally understood something!

Those sound really good Elessar. Maybe I'll try one next summer!

Muddling is nice, just brings flavors out a bit more. I've gotten at least three free ones walking through Albertson's by my house, because they do drink promotions once in a while.

Making mojitos minus muddling makes no sense.

I muddle and mix a mean mojito. Mmmmmmm.

Arbitrary alliteration assassinates anti-climatic accession.

Thank you Khross, you just fried my brain with that sentence and I don't have to think any more! :D
