E6 started as a forum post on ENWorld's gaming forums four years ago, and has become very popular among D&D gamers since then. I'm not sure what I think of it, but I'm quite...curious.

The basic concept is that the style of gameplay in D&D changes every few levels. 1-5 is very lethal and (gritty.) 6-10 is heroic fantasy, 11-15 is more like a hong-kong "Wuxia" type movie, and at 16-20, you're all godlike superheroes.

The creators of E6 believed that the sweetspot here was 1-6, allowing top level players to feel quite heroic, but never becoming absurdly powerful. E6 caps everything out at level 6, then continues advancement by allowing players to buy a feat every 5000 xp.

The problem with d20 is that it sucks. ;) I don't know that there's anything you can do to make it *not* suck.

If you get a feat every 5kxp, you're going to end up with an absolutely retarded amount of feats and shitty skill levels at higher 'levels'.

Although, it would help out the skill, bab, and save inflation that is prevalent. My d20 Future character has a computer use of something like 27 iirc. With an action point, an aid another (from my pet AI), and a decent roll, I can almost crack 50. That should be enough to get into the NSA or something without even really trying. Same goes for a bunch of my knowledge skills and whatnot.

It's intriguing. A wizard with 36 hp really has to really think every spell. Would that mean that you are limited to third level magic wordwide? So no enchanted weapons?

I'm a GURPS fan. Unfortunately, I seem to be in the minority. Hopefully I can convert the guys with the game I'll be running in a few weeks ;)

Craft magic arms and armor requires caster level 5 (not 5th level spells, but caster level 5). This makes it available at the top end of E6. (technically, you can get it at level 5, but you don't get a feat capable of taking it at 5 unless you're a wizard.)

Hehe... my piloting rolls are like that. Same campaign, before rolling the die, if I am in my mecha my skill is 33.

The D&D system is not particularly good if you're using it for games other than D&D. This was the flaw in their attempt to make a generic universal role-playing system.

And yet, the threat of failure still looms.

If there's enough interest, I *may* run the same campaign as a pbp thing. Just to see how two different gaming groups diverge.

I'd be down with that. I might be the only one though.
