I don't think anyone has mentioned Hellsing yet. There's a tv series, and they also made an OVA series that is much more violent but also stays truer to the manga.

Yeah, though that depends who you ask. i tend to agree with you that "Anime" should only be used for Japanese animation in that particular style, however, some argue that it should apply to the genre as a whole, regardless of the country of origin. They will argue that Avatar is "American Anime."

and some people will argue that because it was actually animated IN JAPAN that Inspector Gadget was anime...
