Oh, look. The Falcon! I wonder if they'll try to elevate him beyond token black sidekick and spin him off, like they haven't really done with War Machine. It might be doable, but it'd be a tough sell. Though they've made him loook cool, from what I can tell of the short shot with his wings.

I'm still pulling for a blaxploitation kung fu crossover noir Heroes for Hire franchise, though. Luke Cage, *****.

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' was fantastic. The best of the Marvel films (even better than the first Captain America), epic and dangerous in a way that none of its predecessors have been, and stylish and fun to boot. The brothers Russo found a great way to turn Steve Rogers' world a darker shade of red, white, and blue. It felt truly unexpected and epic, something I can't necessarily say for the others (particularly the limp 'Thor: The Dark World'), shaking up the status quo in a way that felt earned, organic, and legitimate. The runt of the Marvel litter remains the frankly terrible 'Iron Man 2', but the other films have been good to great. They have a new high-water mark, however.

Saw it. Loved it. I was not expecting any of the events from this movie - they really turned the Marvel universe upside down. Curious to see where they go from here.

I was never really a huge fan of Cap in the comics. But he has quickly become my favorite Marvel superhero, thanks to these movies. Chris Evans makes a much better Steve Rogers than Johnny Storm, IMHO.

Anywho, go see it. Fantastic movie. Two thumbs up!

I see what you did there. I agree on Chris Evans, by the way.

He only said he was giving it two thumbs up. Not four.

Saw it last night. Excellent film and pretty solid in 3D.

Saw it tonight, last 3D showing of the day, theater was almost empty and the ones who were there stayed quiet throughout.

Wow, great flick, really enjoyed it.

By the way, for those who walked out after the first trailer scene, there were two. One after the end of the credits.

I was the only one in the theater when that played tonight.

Saw it last night, was not very impressed. Guess I am in the minority though.

I agree; I will even say they found way to add depth to the previously pointless Widow.

I'm kind of with you. My wife and daughter liked it, but my son and I were kind of on the fence.
Spoiler:
Everyone talking about the "darker side" kind of misses the point, I think. It's not that good people were trying to do good, and ended up doing something bad, instead. Having Hydra as the driving force behind the Insight system kind of takes away that tension, if you ask me.

Edit: Heh, sorry, messed up the tag and didn't come back to check.

Spoiler:
The major plot wasn't HYDRA doing evil things because they're HYDRA. It was that HYDRA had infiltrated SHIELD to such a high level (to the point that they were in charge of SHIELD) and nobody noticed, because HYDRA and SHIELD agreed on a fundamental level. Insight seems like such a great idea to prevent suffering and misery that nobody asks questions, and nobody knows what names are going to be on kill lists or for what reasons. The higher ups know better regarding how to identify the bad guys. Even when Cap is accused of treason and labeled a threat, nobody asks questions. They're afraid to rock the boat.

This movie focuses on the one aspect that was glossed over the first Captain America movie, which is the reason why Steve Rogers was chosen for the super soldier serum in the first place. He didn't need to be strong, fast, have good eyesight, or be in good health. The serum would take care of that. What the serum couldn't give was courage and a moral compass.

Everyone in the movie is ruled by fear: fear of the "bad guys," fear of being reprimanded by the boss, fear of losing their reputation, fear of their secrets being discovered, and so forth. All that is required for evil to win is for good men to do nothing, and everyone is paralyzed with fear. Everyone except Steve Rogers, because Steve Rogers can not be cowed or intimidated. Steve Rogers has been standing up to bullies since he was a 90lb weakling. He does not fear pain, hardship, or damage to his reputation.

It is up to Cap to ask the difficult questions, and to draw the line in the sand. The struggle in the movie is getting Steve Rogers to realize that. In a world where so much has changed, all of which he missed, he wants to lead to a simple life of a soldier who follows orders. When his organization turns on him, labeling him a traitor and making him a fugitive, he doesn't know who to trust or even where to start. The real conflict is Steve Rogers accepting that he's Captain America and not Private America. It's not about who he's able to trust, but who he can get to trust him.

That is a brilliant analysis.

I was the only person who laughed in the theater at this scene. Was it that subtle?

Spoiler:
Nick Fury's tombstone read "The path of the righteous man..." A reference to his character Jules in Pulp Fiction, specifically his bible misquoting before pumping someone full of hot lead.

I, my friend, and probably 75% of the rest of the theater downright guffawed.

I tipped Taly off about it before she went into the theater.

I crawled out of the mud, muck and took some time yesterday to go see the movie. It was outstanding. Coro, your write up is spot on.
