I'm.. intrigued at the notion, but don't expect to particularly like either the game or the show.

I'm very intrigued, the special effects looked terrible in the commercial, but it looks interesting

I was thinking the same thing and came to the conclusion that they look proto-awesome. Like Dresden Files didn't invest ANY money in episodes 1-5 or Farscape or Lexx, etc, if the show is given a chance effects budget goes up :)

Anyone watch the pilot or play the MMOFPS?

The show feels small, but ambitious and well-funded. I think I will keep with it.

The premier was good, not great, but a lot of shows get off to a slow start. The plot wasn't anything special, a lot of been there done that, but considering the number of science fiction shows going away recently, it has potential to fill a void. I don't play online games much anymore, so that aspect doesn't really interest me, but I'll be watching to see how that aspect plays out in relation to the show.

I thought it was some decent world building (of course, that's easier when you're using Earth for your setting), and for a Syfy, the effects were pretty good. It's also really nice to see a show with some actual aliens in makeup back on the air, instead of just CG'ing all of them. While the story wasn't great, it was enough for a pilot, with lots of set up for the season. Also, for some reason I'm just always happy whenever I see the white haired lady from the next generation who killed the crystalline entity getting work. Hopefully, the story will carry this season.

Also, intriguing teaser for the new show from Ron Moore.

Syfy described Helix (a working title) as "an intense thriller" about a team of scientists from the Center for Disease Control. After being sent to the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, they soon become entangled in a far more apocalyptic affair, facing "a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation."

One thing I actually disliked, them showing a "preview" of the next scene before cutting to commercials. Man I hope they don't continue that. I'm watching the show already, spoilers are unnecessary for the next 10 minutes.

Watched it, and holy crap was it full of cliches. However, I still liked it quite a bit. It earned a second episode at least from me.

I'll echo the complaint about the cgi. It wasn't very good. But then, it is a pilot, and hopefully as above, it gets better if they get more money.

Is this the "space-Western" thing? I haven't mustered the enthusiasm to investigate it. My default Syfy setting is "Meh" Until Proven Otherwise.

The main character is basically Han Solo with a smidge of Mal thrown in.

Yeah, unless this show can "define itself" in an interesting way, it's too bland to survive. It is a serious drinking game of "name the original that idea came from."

They've earned a second season from me.

While I haven't seen the finale, and the show was definitely improving the last few episodes, this article pretty much sums up my feelings right now:

Yeah, i'm really enjoying this.

I also love all the foreign actors putting on american accents, from Bowler's Kiwi to Curran's Scot, they're all quite believable americans. (although Curran's American accent is of questionable relevance, as he's playing the Votan, Datak Tarr.)

I care nothing for this show, but this headline caught my eye: The Terrible Defiance Finale Nearly Wrecks Its Entire First Season.

From that link to provide context:

Note: This was not as bad as the season 1 finale of Heroes. But if Defiance season 2 looks anything like Heroes season 2 next year, I’m stopping the recaps and setting my TV on fire, just to be safe.

I thought people loved Heroes?

The editing in that article made my eyes bleed. I hate you.

Yep, I'm enjoying the second season more. I actually care about the characters, and watching Stahma make her political/mob moves has been excellent.
