I liked SW:Clone Wars, but it was always just a pleasant diversion. Now we get to see Disney's first foray into the Star Wars universe.

The first episode of Rebels was spectacular.

Serious spine-chilling nostalgic wow. Disney's going to treat this franchise well.

I can see the comparison, but no, not really.

Disney understands the Star Wars I grew up with.

I don't know how to explain it better than that. While far better written than Lucas's shoddy prequel trilogy, the Clone Wars series clearly took its inspiration and feel from those movies. With Rebels, I sense something; a presence I've not felt since... well, a long time ago, in a lifetime far, far away. Rebels takes me back to when the original trilogy was new to me, rather than being an improved take on the shite Lucas tried to foist on us over the last 15 years. It fills me with a new hope for the next movie.

Well that's good. I'll have to look into this at some point. I've got a lot on my plate right now so I'll have to wait till hit netflix at some point.

Second episode was somewhat less of a walking cliche, sure.

"Walking Clichés" don't bother me. They're kinda modus operandi for the setting. After all, Star Wars ("ep.4") was just The Hidden Fortress in space.

Did pick this up. I am enjoying it. It does however have the unfortunate side effect of making me want to actually play star wars, which sucks because I don't really have an rpg group right now.

It's back.

Season 2 Episode 1 is an hour long and is complete with James Earl Jones and Billy Dee Williams, and makes me feel like a little girl again back in the late 70s. I wasn't sure if Vader would ever recover from the emasculation the prequel trilogy performed, turning him into a whiny brat instead of a powerful fallen jedi.

I was wrong. He gives me chills here.

very cool

Spoiler:
end Scene was very heartwarming especially after they did such a good job on convincing you that after all the hyping they may have just brought old Rex in to have him do a Butch and Sundance.

With Rebels s02e16, it looks like Disney just unofficially brought KOTOR into canon.

Really? Nice. KotOR's the one bit of Star Wars EU that I care about.

It's not official, obviously, but since Star Wars Rebels is considered canon, when it references KotOR in an episode, it strongly implies such.

This episode was amazingly storycrafted, as it was one of those rare bits of material that seem to tie together a bunch of different material from different sources.

Without going into detail:
Yoda was in it.
Vader was in it (voiced by James Earl Jones.)
Ahsoka Tano was in it, and she was watching an instruction video by her former master, Anakin Skywalker.
And Malachor was mentioned in an important way... Malachor, the place where Revan and Malak fell to the dark side, and also where the Jedi Exile fought her climactic battle, and Darths Sion, Nihilus and Traya met their ends.

Looks like there have been previous mentions of it, too.

HK-47 is in the latest star wars mobile game, so he's essentially canonized.

After the season finale, I have a little more to say on the approach to the canonicity of KotOR they are taking with Rebels.

Malachor
- In KotOR, Malachor V was the place of the final battle between the Mandalorian Mercenary Clans sent by the Sith Empire, and the Jedi/Republic army lead by Revan and Malak. While the exact nature of the battle has long been kept mysterious, it is a place where millions died, and hundreds of Jedi, including Revan and Malak, fell to the dark side. It is assumed that Revan and Malak found some ancient Sith artifact that allowed them to destroy their foes (and many allies, as well) en masse. Years later, this is also where The Jedi Exile fights her climactic battle against Darths Sion and Traya.
- In Rebels, Kanan and Ahsoka tell Ezra Jedi have long been forbidden to go to Malachor, due to a legend thousands of years old of dark events that occurred there. When Ahsoka, Kanan and Ezra arrive, there is an ancient sith temple, and thousands of charred, millenia-old corpses surrounding it. The temple is revealed to be an ancient weapon with the power to destroy the enemies of those who wield it, but the temple requires that its controller use rage, aggression or fear along with the force in its control.

Minor: When blinded by Maul's lightsaber, Kanan Jarrus puts on a face-covering mask. This mask looks identical to some armor available to Consulars or Inquisitors in SW:TOR.

Obviously, neither of these nods to KotOR officially make the story of the Prodigal Knight Revan into official SW: Canon. However, it's clear that the writers are treating it at such.

As an aside - I feel vaguely irritated that the absolute most dramatic, most chilling, and most epic scene Darth Vader has ever had in Star Wars is in a Disney XD half-hour cartoon.

And another major old "Star Wars Extended Universe" character is back in canon.

Also, for Kaffis, looks like they have the recruitment of Wedge Antilles in an episode here.

I read about the Thrawn thing the other day. Definitely piqued my interest upon reading that. Outside of this thread, I hadn't heard anything else about the show.
