Netflix's first foray into original series production debuted yesterday. It's a political intrigue show, starring Kevin Spacey and masterminded by David Fincher. It's excellent so far (I'm two episodes in) and even better, all thirteen episodes were released simultaneously.

Here's a trailer:

I was planning to watch it, but now Netflix is coming on like a needy girlfriend after everything I watch. "Have you watched the trailer? You should watch the show? You know you want to! Kevin Spacey is in it! You watched another movie with him in it, we know you like him!"

Although, I am putting it higher in the queue thanks to the guaranteed Nitefox nudity.

I was listening to some commentator talk about this on the way home. His take was that while it was very good, he doubted the wisdom of spending all that money vs the revenue stream it may create for netflix

It's been hilarious to watch the old guard rail against this distribution model change. Dinosaurs, unable to adapt.

One series won't do it, of course. But HBO wasn't built in a day, and they're now the preeminent name in original series. If they keep up this level of quality, thus insuring subscribers and more production, they'll change the face of television.

Took in the first two episodes this morning. It was good enough to keep me awake when I am dead tired.

Perhaps, indeed I hope so.

On the other hand, what I'm really hoping is that HBO and Showtime will realize they don't need the cable networks to get to my house. Just let me subscribe to HBO|Go independently.

I can't help but wonder if "House of Cards" isn't indirectly responsible for me dropping Netflix and switching that money over to Crunchyroll. Netflix has been gutting their anime and international serial licenses over the several months; and as more and more things I watched on Netflix became unavailable for streaming, I took my money elsewhere. That's not a jab at the show; I'm actually interested in it. I'm just frustrated at the disappearing content at Netflix.

I started watching this tonight.

I'm not terribly interested in the show. Politics bore me.. but I'm going to watch it, if for no other reason than to cast my vote for the format....

Well, I got through four episodes and was actually enjoying..

Right up until... Well..

I won't post any spoilers yet since several folks are actively watching it...

I'll probably watch the rest of it when I have time, but that that was pretty disappointing....

Did you get past episode 4, Midgen? If not, I urge you to at least watch episode 5, it may change your perspective.

I just watched episode 11 and I'm very upset that I wont have time to finish the season for a few days.

I haven't gone back (yet).

I may give it another shot at some point, but I'm not making it a priority.

I finished them all. I think my love of Kevin Spacey kept me going more than anything.

My wife sucked me into it ... we have two chapters left. Enjoying it. What was wrong with Chapter 4?

What was particularly striking there, is how he and his wife have no secrets. They even approve, based on what advantages having that person as an asset brings them. It's just so... brutally pragmatic.

I assume Midgen didn't like it because he doesn't know about what's in Talya's spoiler, because I felt the same way at first. I was all like, "COME ON FRANK, WHAT THE ****‽"

I saw that coming from the very first episode. It was just so predictable and obvious, and I really hoped they wouldn't do it.

Yea, I didn't want to see that either but the show was still good right to the end.
