While it's not as scary, there were some good moments, and they tied the story in with the first one much more than I expected. Looking forward to part 3 in the fall.

Did you see 2 in theaters or at home?

I would like to see number 2. I mentioned it before, but I really liked number 1 and was fully on board. Except for the very, very, very last scene (like.... last 3 seconds). It would have held far more weight had they kept the original, un CGI-ified ending.

Spoiler:
Where she kills the husband and then stabs herself in the eyes, thus bringing back earlier stories to full circle. Far more effective than the obviously fakebad demon face she dons, and jumps at the camera. Bad, bad, bad, terrible, terribad, stupid ending.

Edit: Looks like Paranormal Activity 2 will be available on netflix streaming on 10/15. Sweet.

I prefer the theatrical ending to Paranormal Activity. Haven't seen 2. Won't get to with Phe around. :D

Saw it at home, but was home alone, so the sound was CRANKED. :) Definitely had me jump a couple times.

The Disappeared: I really don't want to spoil this at all. Very good, creepy movie. Go watch it in the dark. Available on Netflix instant.

Gorefest or more psychological?

I am more a fan of the latter.

Psychological, completely. (Like you, I don't consider most gory movies to be scary, just gross lol)

While not scary, it's filed under comedy/horror: Aaah! Zombies!! (on netflix streaming)

Image

Low budget film about zombie outbreak, from the zombie perspective. A bit slow, but creatively done switching between zombie/actual perspective.

Mirrors 2: gory, no scare factor at all. Christy Carlson Romano has a really excessively long shower scene with some gigantic bewbs.

Broken: British film. More showers, more mirrors, but unlike Mirrors 2 this was actually super-creepy once it finally gets going.

PS: apparently British people don't believe in cell phones.

Rise Blood Hunter: not a scary or gory movie, but it is long. The best thing the makers could put in the description was: "shock rocker Marilyn Manson as the bartender!" If you're into her you also see Lucy Liu's boobs, otherwise skip it.

Hazing: in the spirit of the Evil Dead. Kind of scary, very campy, low budget. I would recommend it.

The Baby's Room: Spanish movie, very scary, no gore. Very scary at night.

*Update* I actually locked the bedroom door after watching this LOL

Watched this on Netflix a week or two ago. The start was so good I watched the whole thing.

A minor classic and yet only 3 stars of 5? Harsh!

Mmm, fair point. I've bumped it to 3.5 stars. The flip side of that is that the space horror genre is pretty poorly represented (you've got some of the Alien films on the high side, and on the low side, stuff like...well, the other Alien films...), so something that's "quite good" winds up being a minor classic of the genre.

I'm sorry, did you say something, Hopwin? I see a post, your avatar and signature, but there's no text there. I didn't realize you could make a blank post.

(Seriously, though, Jason X is watchable and enjoyable, despite being in no possible way good. It's one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen, but in that 'it's so entertainingly stupid I don't want to stop watching' way. Plus the fact that the screenwriter named the characters after his buddies' EverQuest toons makes me giggle. :D)

I didn't know about the EQ characters but that just adds to my enjoyment. That movie was such a ridiculous premise and so utterly... stupid but like you I had to watch it.

Same here, it was bad, bad fun. Some great kills and truly awful one liners in there as well.

"He got screwed."

Yes, but that's not nearly as awesome as

(Yes, that's a real movie)

Stay Alive: scary movie based on horror video games. Little gory but not bad, cheap POP up scares. Not bad overall.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days - sequel to 30 days of night. Not a horror film, vampire hunter movie and not a very good one at that.

PS: worst ending to any movie, ever.

Wow, ever? That's quite the claim. There have been some BAD ones.
