I'm keeping my expectations at medium levels. When I very first heard of Guardians of the Galaxy I was a bit hesitant. And we all know how that turned out for the world.

Marvel has done a much better handling of their properties than any third party, even the worst offenders are still better than most third party Marvels.

Also note that ABC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Walt Disney Company. The teaser-teaser is doing double-duty for free.

It's not exactly for free. They had to sink the costs of producing the teaser, and they had to run it in lieu of a revenue-earning (or at least, somebody else's money, I'm sure some funny money had to be credited and debited) spot. I'm not saying that what they stand to earn, ultimately, doesn't pay for the spot, but it's not an immediate booking. I'm just saying, let's be careful with what we call "free".

Interesting. When it came out they were doing Scott Lang, I was wondering whether they'd bypass Pym altogether somehow. I'm kind of glad they're not, (I mean, they're Pym particles, for goodness' sake), and now I'm kind of intrigued at how they'll play Hank -- it looks like they're going for an older Pym, which might be a great angle to retain the ego and need for recognition and respect while being a good excuse to stick Lang in the suit.

Which is probably the goal, to avoid setting up Pym as too similar to Stark -- brilliant inventor who gets off on playing hero with his tech. Lang, on the other hand, offers a lot of character motivation that's new to the cinematic Marvelverse -- family obligations, reformed criminal (which they've written out of Hawkeye's origin), etc.

I'm not really enticed by the Ant-Man trailer, though I'm sure I'll still see it. I didn't care anything about Guardians of the Galaxy, but it had a killer trailer that took me instantly from apathy to excitement. Ant-Man...didn't.

I can't help but think what might have been had Edgar Wright stayed. Having the guy who made Scott Pilgrim and Hot Fuzz make the film as a passion project a decade in the making? Hell. Yes. Passing off a product to the dude who made Yes Man and Bring It On just to get it out the door and meet a prescribed release date? Meh, Paul Rudd notwithstanding.

The Ant-Man trailer isn't as interesting as GotG. The director change is worrying, but who knows.

I like Kate Mara and all, but... I'm not sure.

I did note they said "From the studio that brought you X-Men: Days of Future Past" and not "From the studio that inflicted X-Men Origins: Wolverine on the world." Smart branding choice, there.

Mmm. Thoughts:

A) I like that it looks like a trailer for a movie, not a superhero movie. It feels like a comic book Interstellar.
B) Miles Teller seemed a strange choice for Reed Richards, but Whiplash bought him all the goodwill in the world with me.
C) I still love Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm. Smart, perfect casting.
D) I don't really care for Kate Mara, but she's at least better than her sister Rooney, and she conveys intelligence, unlike Jessica Alba.
E) I think Jamie Bell will be good as Ben.
F) Damn, casting director. You nailed Young Miles Teller.
G) I loved Chronicle, so I'm open to this already.
H) Interestingly, the director has referenced David Cronenberg as a heavy influence on the film. While I'm not a big fan of Cronenberg (BURN IN HELL, EXISTENZ), I think "body horror" is an appropriate and interesting tack to take with the FF.

This has long been my stance with regards to "How to tell a FF story."

You don't do the FF origin. The draw of the FF is the family dynamics that have no business being built on-screen. Any time you create an origin story for the FF, 80% of the movie lacks what makes the FF special and interesting.

How many times do they have to tell the same origin stories before they can just put up a website. "If you really don't know the origins of these characters because you've been under a rock for 20 years, www.marveloriginsforthemovies.com. Ok, moving on."
