We got a second season against everyone's expectations and it just didn't fly well enough. It's hard to call "It's all fox's fault" on this one (at least for me).

While the Fox hate runs deep for firefly (I love that little ship), at least we get an ENDING this time, and it sounds like it will be a good one. I'm extremely excited to see the rest of the series.

I never argued that their handling of firefly wasn't criminal, just that I think Joss, who showed a bit of boneheadedness on going with them again, got quite a bit fairer shake this time.

Fairer, yes. And while the abysmal ratings are typical for a Friday night show, i'm not sure dollhouse ever would have gotten the following firefly could have. That said, Fox's marketing and handling of it were still poor.

Dollhouse was a difficult concept to sell at best, and the initial handling of the series did absolutely nothing to help it (in fact, it hurt it pretty badly). The first five episodes or so were just dreck. Even though I give them something of a pass for the aired pilot (the worst episode of the series to date), they're still culpable for the introductory mishandling. Even a die-hard Whedon fan such as myself tired of the poor show construction, and only barely talked myself into watching episode six, mainly due to promises that it was when the show would truly take off.

Lo and behold, "Man on the Street" aired, and it righted the ship. From there through the end of the first season, it was an increasingly deep and fascinating show, delving into ever deeper moral quandaries and ambiguities.

Season two kicked off as Whedon shows always do, for some reason: slowly. Two episodes in, I was scared that they were going to fall back into the arena of rancid early episodes, but Tim Minear swooped in with "Belle Chose" (the serial killer episode) and dammit, the series hooked me again. It's hit higher highs with each subsequent episode, including the two from Friday night (which Phe and I just finished watching). It's not going down in the annals of classic, archetypal Whedon works, but all signs point to the show going out with one hell of a bang.

In short, I feel Fox did do some disservices to the construction and promotion of the show, but I don't blame them for canceling it. Every time Dollhouse's ratings seemed to hit absolute rock bottom, it seemed to bring in a backhoe, and I blame the tepid kickoff episodes (as well as a challenging premise that really needed those early episodes to sell it) as the main weakness of the series.

Edit: by the way, after the past few episodes, I really want to see Enver Gjokaj in more stuff. The guy's amazingly versatile.

I loved this weeks double episode (Stop-Loss/The Attic), I missed last week somehow, but every time Rossum shows themselves to be evil we understand that they just get more and more evil....

OK, so did everyone stop watching this? I just watched Fridays episode on my DVR, and I did not see that coming at all.

No, Phe and I just watched it today. Great stuff. When the show first started, I wasn't really inclined to miss it if it were canceled. Such is no longer the case. It's turned into a damn fine show, and I can't wait to see how it ends.

I've also been sadly counting down the episodes. I've come to really enjoy this show.

The offhand remark about Bennett killing people with her brain was pure win and the episode only went uphill from there.

Yup. Right now, it's amazing, and I find myself exclaiming loudly multiple times per episode.

2 episodes left!!

Yes me too. However it looks like we are gonna come back and tie up that loose end in a hour rather than leaving it open to some kind of future project.

I'll wait to see the result before I say if that's good or bad.

I'm glad they're revisiting the world of Epitaph, if only for hope for more Felicia Day.

I thought it excellent and unexpected moving, give the plot-centricity of wrapping up the series.

I thought it was just about as good an ending as it could be. I want more, but at least they got the chance to end it right.
