*Warning - Hollywood lives to crush your dreams and childhood memories, then monetize the ashes and sell them back to you at a 500% markup.*

There, that should suffice for all future threads as well. :)

I do have to say, even knowing how effed the system is, it's still depressing that not even Cameron could push this through. Would've been glorious.

I should point out that Universal couldn't give Guillermo del Toro $150m to make At the Mountains of Madness, but they threw over $200m to Peter Berg for an adaptation of the board game Battleship.

Holy ****, battleship cost 200 million? I couldn't stop giggling during the idiotic trailer.

Here's a great breakdown from the cracked writers:

I am, in fact, stupefied.

Now, a Stratego movie, I might be able to get behind that ...

Sir Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator) is said to be making a Monopoly movie...

OK, I need to get on the stick, then, and start writing a Stratego script. I mean, I know people in this town ...

Of course, the games I like (Stratego, Risk) and would write about are all for nerds, and won't have nearly the popular appeal of something like Battleship.

To be fair, apparently Battleship didn't have popular appeal of Battleship. They had to graft Transformers 4: Transformers at Sea onto it, apparently. :D

If you want popular appeal, go for Settlers of Catan, instead.

You may be on to something, there. I need to try that game, anyway.

Well, granted, Settlers is still pretty geeky despite being "more" mainstream these days than many boardgames of its depth.

But you could make a movie that pretty well hid that it was based on a boardgame, and thus draw the mass appeal. ;)

And as Deniro looked dramatically into pachino's eyes he said (his jaw set so heavily), "do you have any wood for my sheep?"

Uno would be a made-for-TV movie starring David Caruso, who would whip off his sunglasses before grimly declaring he was down to his last card.

Doesn't the Sir part imply that he is allowed to carry a weapon in public (traditionally)?

Is it then okay for us to take his weapon and behead him shouting "There can be only one"?

I hear there is going to be a $300 million dollar budget for the new Red Rover movie due out in 2014. Joss Whedon directing with Nathan Fillion and Neil Patrick Harris at the romantic couple.

Margaret Cho and Jessica Alba's baby are going to be the bad 'guys'.

Before anyone actually starts to believe that, i made it up.

Del Toro speaks a bit about AtMoM. "One day, Cthulhu willing, we'll get it made."

Please do not get my hopes up, they are in a fragile state. Next thing you know the project will be cancelled for some big budget romantic comedy just to piss me off.

It couldn't be more insulting than being cancelled for Battleship :( (yeah, how'd that work out for you, Universal?).
