Those alien thingies aren't the most ominous threat in the video.

I swear I heard GLaDOS in the trailer.

So, our response, with our newfound weapons development program to make something to fight these monsters... is to turn our evolved-over-millennia history and experience with toolmaking to build... a weapon with which to engage these beasts in unarmed combat?

Can you think of a more awesome way to take out a Godzilla-lookin' mutherfukka than a city-sized rocket punch?

CASE. RESTED.

Yeayhhhhh, this is going to be a theater trip for sure. I'm also surprised this is the first I'm hearing of this film. Sons of Anarchy: Evangelion!

Wow, this film company "The Asylum" looks like some classy gents.

Here's just a few things they've made:

It's literally an entire company designed to prey on the elderly, the sleep deprived, and the high by getting them to pick up the wrong movie at the video store. I wonder how that business is working out now that there are no more video stores?

I guess if Netflix keeps paying license fees on their crap, it's working out just fine. Apparently Universal sued them for producing a movie to release called "American Battleship", which they changed to "American Warships" in order to drop the lawsuit. Classy.

Also, they're about to get their first theatrical release. http://holdyourbreathmovie.com/ Looks like a winner. Well, at least there's murder by egg-beater.

Actually, their entire business model is turning high-budget, high-profile, major studio blockbusters into SyFy Original Movies. The movies are INTENTIONALLY bad rip-offs of major market movies. They aren't predatory clones.

I'm not necessarily seeing the distinction here.

Intentional bad rip-off /= Predatory Clone?

The Asylum is a satire studio. Their movies are called "mockbusters". And, yes, they make a truckload of SyFy Original Movies.

I'm not sure about that explanation. Satire usually indicates a mocking or ironic take on the original source material. According to their own producers, their films are made on original scripts with no connection to the blockbuster they are mocking. While I appreciate the very cheap Roger Corman style guerilla filmmaking, (and that they've made some original films for SyFy/etc), in general it still seems like a pure cash grab with no artistic merit when they simply design the cover in the same color pallette/style and give it a similar name.

Yeah, like most of Hollywood is just chuck full of original or interesting content. If someone was fooled, they likely deserved it.
