So, Joss Whedon's Avengers sequel has a title...

Can you get to Vision without Ultron?

Hm. I like it, but wonder why Thanos was teased at the end of The Avengers. I guess he needs more build up?

I read some speculation that Thanos might actually end up in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Whedon's always said Thanos would be the villain of AVENGERS 3. And Ultron would align with his stated goal of making AVENGERS 2 less epic and more internally-focused.

Doesn't this mean they'll need to introduce Henry Pym before the stand-alone Ant-Man movie that's in the works?

Author:  FarSky [ Sun Jul 21, 2013 10:22 pm ]
Post subject:

No. Whedon has said they're altering Ultron's origin to not (necessarily) include Pym. This allows Edgar Wright's upcoming Ant-Man movie to be its own beast, and doesn't necessitate his introduction into the Avengers (particularly with the already-announced inclusion of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, it would likely get crowded).

The current theory is that Ultron is created by JARVIS going rogue.

I'm not sure how I feel about Ultron without Pym and Pym getting shafted in favor of other characters I don't care about.

However I like the idea of two being the movie where the Avengers kind of fall into their own as opposed to a repeat of one where they are facing off against a huge external galactic threat.

I am totally OK with no Pym. I'm also totally OK with the movies establishing their own continuity. I'm finding that the older I get, the more tedious I find fidelity to canon. All I need is for the film to make something that works well. So few superhero films nowadays have any heart to them; if I start filtering ones that don't treat comics as holy writ, I'm going to be left with nothing.

Ultron without Pym is fine.

I'm just not sure that Pym without Ultron is fine. What's the point of introducing Ant-man if you get rid of his most notable "accomplishment?" THere's just not that much interesting to do with Ant-man.

There's plenty interesting to do with Ant-Man. Let a creep of a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent like Eric O'Grady steal the Ant-Man suit, for instance.

Oh, you meant there's not much interesting to do with Hank Pym? Okay, yeah.

Whedon is playing in the Ultimates Universe. This tells us a lot of things, not the least of which is that putting Hank Pym on screen is kind of stupid, politically bad, and likely to alienate a HUGE portion of the non-comic fan base.

I love that Marvel just rolled with the leak, instead of freaking out and cease-and-desisting it until its debut during "Agents of SHIELD" next week.

Yeah, that is one of the few constants in the marvel universe. That thing will last forever.

But, to be fair, the shield was severely downplayed in the movies.

"What's this thing under all this scrap metal? It feels important, like a one of a kind discovery kind of thing."

"That? Meh. It will work, I guess. It absorbs vibrations. Which will be good if a heroically good asgardian tries to murder a mere mortal." (Thor had no clue about caps shield. Murder was on his mind!)
