Three episodes and I like it so far.

James Spader at his best.

My wife and I have been enjoying it. Nice mix of the dramatic and mildly comic.

I think the show, for me, is about 90% Spader.

Episode 3 was definitely better and worked hard to quell some of the concerns I had about the show. However I wonder if its trying to do too much it could be a good show if it were just about the two of them catching bad guys without the whole deeper plot about how the character's pasts might be connected. I guess all dramas have to have a grand overarching plot now-a-days.

I won't watch a show without them. Story-of-the-week just doesn't hold my attention anymore.

James Spader is the perfect "Magnificent Bastard."

It's the first situation he's been shown in where he is not in complete control. His reactions to these things are bringing out aspects of his persona that have not been needed previously.

With that said, he still seems confident and composed, and one gets the distinct impression he has contingencies that have not yet been revealed. Raymond Reddington's outward persona is the same as his inward one.

maybe humanity is a strong word. He does appear to however have a code of -honor seems a bit harsh, maybe- conduct that shows there are lines that he won't cross. He's still a magnificent Bastard, but he does seem to have lines he won't cross, or at least respect loyalty and such. I wasn't implying that he just wants to be hugged deep down or anything like that.

I am intrigued so far. Will see if the show can keep the momentum without growing monotonous. I had this problem with White Collar and Burn Notice.

Burn Notice didn't so much get monotonous, as it had the normal ups and downs of any long-running series. (Even Angel had the horrible Connor plotline.) It did recover from them. Season 6 was the weakest for BN, but Season 7 was one of the best.

White Collar hasn't had a "down" yet, I'm still loving every second of it.

I definitely thought we had a good return this week. Even if we were still cleaning up the mess of what happened before the break.
