YES

Man I can't believe running with scissors came out when I was in middle school.

I picked up the CD this morning (yes I actually bought the CD, years ago Al said he got more money from CDs than digital sales).

It's good, but I don't know which songs are parodies and which ones are originals >_> I'm so out of the 'popular' music scene

At least You posted the SFW cut of that video

There's a NSFW version?

Huh. Thicke seems kinda douchey.

Edit: Yeah, that's *REALLY* NSFW.

And more than kinda.

Edit2: Purchased the entire album, on the strength of the two releases so far. Word Crimes is the top cut on this. Inactive is the #2.

Snagged it at midnight. Not one of my favorites so far, but it's working its magic slowly. Weird Al works best when you're equally in tune with the music of the time being parodied, and I'm not much of a modern pop person.

He has said this is likely his final album. The immediacy of YouTube has somewhat killed his ability to gather these songs over a period of years to produce an album.

"Handy" = Iggy Azalea's "Fancy"

"Foil" - Lorde's "Royals"

"Word Crimes" = Robin Thicke's "Girl, I'm Going to Rape You, **** Subtlety or Euphemisms, I'm Outright Stating I'm Going to Rape You" (or, as is more popularly known, "Blurred Lines")

"Inactive" = Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive"

"Tacky" = Pharrell's "Happy"

Weird Al-bums falls into a simple rhythm:

Parody
Original
Parody
Original
Parody
Original
Polka (takes the place of a parody)
Original
Parody
Original
Parody
Original (usually an incredibly lengthy style parody)

I'm familiar with the controversy regarding Blured Lines. I would have more sympathy for the rape culture arguments if modern feminism weren't still promoting the idea that sex = rape. To make matters worse, modern feminists are now promoting shame over sexual desires and sexual behavior under the guise of "sex positivism."

I can tell I don't listen to pop, I think I only knew one of the songs on the new album (blurred lines) before I heard the parodies.

Album is great.

As someone who was in college marching band, I loved Sports Song.

As someone who appreciates a fine polka, a nod to American tradition, and a good old fashion bit of clean fun ...

I thoroughly approve.

Final video of the 8 day Alstravaganza, and I think it's my favorite. Not my favorite song on the album, but the art style is definitely great in the video.

I've always been a big Al fan but I don't really like any of the original songs I've heard so far. The parodies are great though.

His originals usually take a bit to grow on me.

I actually kinda most of his parodies are a bit weaker (in general) on this one. "Word Crimes" and "Tacky" are great, but "Handy," "Foil," and "Inactive" are just kinda there. "Handy" and "Inactive" fall back on well-worn (and weak) topics for WAY, and "Foil" just doesn't come together all that well.

Of the originals, "Lame Claim to Fame" is a dumb theme, but earwormy as hell to me. "Sports Song" is a one-note joke but works really well. "My Own Eyes"...ugh. Part of that may be my innate distaste for Foo Fighters. "Mission Statement" is just kinda there; rife with potential but not really going in for biting humor. "First World Problems" is good. "Jackson Park Express" is...fine, but doesn't hold a candle to his normal epic album-enders like "Albuquerque" (still the reigning champ).

I think biggest ball of twine in Minnesota is his strongest finisher. Great epic tale in the vein of someone like Gordon Lightfoot. That, and he played it live at a concert I was at, which was awesome. Don't think he's done that for Albuquerque.

Yeah, I definitely feel more love for the old Al originals. The ones on this album sound like actual top 40 songs, less of that Al flavor.

I long for the days of Attack of the Radioactive Hamsters from a Planet Near Mars, Nature Trail to Hell (IN 3-D!!!), Stuck in a closet with Vanna White, even Harvey the wonder hamster.

And Hardware store still gets stuck in my head regularly. Can't believe that album came out 11 years ago.

I did enjoy the Beach Boys style parody of Pancreas:
