The Glade 4.0

Today I learned that Andrew Ryan, the man who built rapture, is voiced by Armin "Quark/ sunnydale principal" Shimerman. I did not expect that.

If I played Bioshock, I'd have noticed. Shimmerman has a distinctive voice. Principal Snyder of Sunnydale High is always obvious.

I also did not recognize him. I just watched a vid on youtube, and I think his voice is also disguised quite a bit by it being "over the radio", so there's consistently static/down the well sound. I also didn't realize it in the scene where you finally meet him, because my mind was too busy being blown.

He does have a distinct voice. Except this time. Andrew Ryan has a much deeper tone. Knowing it's Armin beforehand, you can hear his voice a bit moreso in the character, but he completely flew under my radar (and I am very good at picking up on voice actors, as they are kind of an obsession of mine) and I would be willing to bet not knowing it was Armin beforehand would also have fooled everyone else who would claim otherwise. Armin lowers his voice and also is a little less nasally. It's a very cool transformation.

Here is the intro to the game. The video warns about spoilers, but honestly this is what anyone who plays the game sees in the first 5 minutes.

Reading about this plot makes me sympathize with Andrew Ryan more than the protagonist.
