...is a thing now.

And it looks like they've finally dropped the stupid Star Wars Episode X: Tortured Attempt at Pulpy Name nomenclature (on which no one standardized the sodding punctuation anyway).

If these three aren't all that great, there won't be a SW X: Tortured Attempt at Pulpy Name.

Although, I might go to see a Jar Jar Binks Tortured into a Pulp snuff film...

FTFY.

The prequels, shitty as they are, were a phenomenal success for Lucasfilm/20th Century Fox.

I has a sad. I miss pulpy nomenclature.

It still appears to be Star Wars: Search For a Pulpy Name. They just dropped the number.

The Episode Y (X is a bad variable to use when dealing with Roman numerals) nomenclature contributes to the pulpiness, though.

I think they need to keep the "Episode #" in the titles, to differentiate the main trilogy from the spinoff movies they're releasing in between the trilogy movies.

No matter how abused I am, I can't help but be hopeful.

Edit: real trailer now live below

That's a fan-made trailer that's been making the rounds. Not legit.

Feels "right" though one must wonder why we are having starship battles at down in the dirt levels other than "because it looks bad***"

Definitely looks great. I'm excited, if for no other reason than it wasnt directed by Lucas.

Very pretty. But it's not going to have the feel of the originals, which may or may not be a bad thing, I suppose.

But that's true of almost all of Star Wars. Lightsabers? Pure nonsense but look and sound badass. Fiery explosions in space? Nonsense, but badass. Sounds of said explosions? The lasers that created them? Nonsense, but badass.

The EU has a rich history of atmospheric battles involving starfighters. (Sources for this range from Rogue Squadron comics to various game sources that feature art depicting TIE Bombers bombing planetary targets to Rogue Squadron LucasArts games and more) Not only is it badass, but it beats introducing an entire new cast of machinery and vehicles for that role. And A New Hope establishes that starfighters are capable of atmospheric flight, when the X- and Y-Wings launch from the temple ruins.

If you're going to nitpick, nitpick that they're flying in-atmosphere with S-Foils locked open. That's the more surprising and less established bit. ;)

Note these are not the same model x-wings. These have offset s-foils (upper are aft of lower)

Rumors abound given leaked stills that Darth Revan could be the sith with the light-claymore

I'll split the difference: trailer looks great generally, but that lightsaber with the finger-slicing crossguard isn't doing it for me. Much prefer this fan-made version:

I will have to see it twice. The second time so I can re-watch the stuff I missed while crying the first time.

The S-Foils are not so much offset as interlocking. I like the new design. It appears to be a good evolution of the T-65.
