Trying to figure out what to get for my third harp. Started with the Hohner Special 20 in C. Thing's like a hotrod. Responsive, comfortable, bends easy, can fly all over the thing. Second one is a Hohner Marine Band 1896 in the key of A. It's more like an old pickup truck. Sounds dirty, feels like playing a chainsaw covered in sandpaper, but ohhhh man does it sound like the blues. So I guess next up I'm looking for something in B♭ or F, and I'm not sure which harmonica to get. Models I've been considering are: Marine Band Crossover the Rocket Suzuki Manji ...? If anyone has any thoughts or feedback, it'd be appreciated. |

I am not a blues harmonica player, but I love that this thread exists. I've never bought a harmonica that wasn't garbage, but these model names are AMAZING: Quote: Marine Band Crossover the Rocket Suzuki Manji ...? Good luck with deciding! |

Thanks. Harmonica is pretty fun, you can bring it with you anywhere you go. I practice during my daily commute. Been playing for a year, so I'm definitely a beginner. Here's an attempt from last December of something I wrote, on the Hohner Special 20. |

I wish. I tried to pick it up a couple years ago and have too much squirrel disease. |

The girls went shopping this weekend, so I had a couple hours. This is my first attempt at playing slide guitar (and my first attempt at playing guitar, really). Went and cut a section of PVC in the garage for a slide, and googled open e tuning. Figured out how to get E, and the fourth and fifth, and that was that. I set the phone on my knee as I played guitar and did some foot tapping, then played it over a loud Bluetooth speaker while recording on the other phone. Harmonica was just improvised. The harmonica was too loud on the first couple takes, so I had to walk in the other room and play. It's flat in spots and sounds like hell at some points, but it's a start. P.S. Also bought a Suzuki Manji in D, will let you know what I think of it. Should arrive this week. |
