I went into this movie expecting nothing (which is why I waited so long to see it.) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2) & At World's End (3) were convoluted but passable fun. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (4) managed to be horrible despite having Ian McShane, and being based on a well-received novel. The critics had not been kind to part 5, so it was going to suck. That's what I expected. I was completely wrong. This movie is as good as the original, and brought closure to the stories of 3 characters in this from the beginning. Don't let the critics scare you away from this movie. I get their point - they're tired of Captain Jack Sparrow. There is nothing this movie could have done to win them over, other than not being a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. |
