(Ok I did a wide open search for "District" and nothing came up, so if there is already a thread, then my search feature hates me ) Just watched D9 from Netflix, and OMFG! Hands down one of THE best movies I have ever seen. I'm pretty sure if this movie kicked any more ***, it would have to like sign something . . . or something (even metaphors fail me after seeing this). Anyway, all I can really say other than above, is that I wish more cinema was of this caliber. Actually considering picking this up on BluRay, which will make the first movie I have purchased in ~3 years. EDIT: One thing that did bug me tho -- is that they kind of just threw the fact that the Humans and Prawns could communicate with each other with no explanation as to how we were able to learn each other's language. Minor complaint that is practically overshadowed by the sheer awesomeness of the film itself. |

The language barrier is explained by the length of times the prawns were on earth before the film takes place. They've been on earth 28 years when the story starts. While neither can speak the other's language (probably due to the difference in vocal equipment), that is plenty of time to learn to understand the other's language. I also agree, it is an absolutely amazing film. I can't wait to see the next film from Blomkamp. |

I'll second what Darkroland said, and agree that it is a damn good movie. Should also be noted that for humans, learning the alien language was an option, depending on whether they interacted with aliens or not. Outside of Johannesburg I doubt it was much of a priority for anyone not involved with District 9 in some way. For the aliens it was much more of a priority, as it would be a survival skill to be able to interact with humans. Yes, we discussed the film for a few pages back when it hit the theaters, and before BoardZero went belly up. |

Yeah, that makes sense about the language in hindsight. And weapon-laden exo-suits = automatic win for a movie. I wonder if you can get those at Wal-Mart . . . |

I think this movie was an awesome example of Palladium's concept of Mega Damage. |

Wife and I enjoyed it. Was a bit too Cronenberg for me in places, but otherwise a very solid and original science fiction film in a sea of humdrum recent releases in the genre. |
