Films like Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings.

Interesting. I'm still not sold on 3D as anything more than an enjoyable gimmick. My initial distaste of 3D has given way to a grudging enjoyment of it as the technology has improved vastly, and while I don't think it should be considered a replacement for a traditional 2D canvas, venturing into Empire space or Middle-Earth with that additional depth would definitely be a lark.

Additionally, 3D TVs are supposed to hit this year (already demoed one in Fry's) and they look spectacular.

I didn't look closer when I heard that somebody had come up with a 3d TV; we're talking polarized, yes?

Could either turn out really good or completely useless and gimmicky. I'll maintain hope that it will be awesome and wait until reality crushes my hopes and dreams.

Darkroland, this is completely apropos of nothing, but you avatar reminded me that Earthworm Jim just hit the iPhone/iPod Touch app store, much to my eternal delight.

Haha. Time to make a phone call and make my brother curse his Verizon service.

At your local theaters, are the free 3D glasses the little cardboard fold-up type?

Nay. Hard plastic polarized glasses. They're goofy-looking, but comfortable enough for a couple hours' wear, and they even fit over regular glasses.

Same here in LA, but they're super-neurotic about getting them back when you leave. I heard that they cost about $3 a pair, so I can understand. Just kind of funny.

While I think it would be badass to be on the end of a Legolas Arrow barrage in 3d.. no thanks.

edit: and please for the love of god... someone kill George Lucas before he gives my childhood roofies and has his way with it... again.

I wish to repost a very important opinion piece on Lucas and his decimation of all that is Star Wars:
