Nah, it isn't a boys choir. They are all post-college. But they sing more like an English choir, which means straight tone, little vibrato except in certain places and songs where it belongs (if they are singing a spiritual for instance). So the sopranos are actually women. Here is another video of a performance they did on Irish morning TV. Nice. I'm not a fan of vibrato in choir anyway, since it usually isn't in sync (and therefore sounds worse). Very cool. |

Yeah, some American choirs tend to be in love with vibrato. But with serious choral music you have these tight harmonies, that if you are singing with a lot of vibrato it makes those harmonies very mushy. There are definitely places for it, but it isn't to be used constantly. Edit: And oh, I just looked at the youtube comments for the movie trailer, rofl...It is filled with a bunch of teenagers upset because they thought it was a trailer for some twilight movie called Eclipse. |
