I'm so happy I now know what LTTP means ... the 'W' is for "way", as in "way late". Anyway, I finally saw Cloverfield. I actually rather liked it; perhaps because it was on a small screen, the "queasy-cam" style didn't bug me as much as I thought it would. The other reason I bring this up is because there's talk of a sequel. Not sure quite how they'd do that, but with Abrams it might at least be interesting. |

I enjoyed it. It doesn't have a lot of replay value, by virtue of the kind of movie it is ("camcorder films" rarely do), but it's a really solid, effective monster movie. |

I really dug the movie. I can't tell you how many times I've had a dream of being on a rooftop and seeing a huge explosion in the distance. Usually in the dream though, the explosion is nuclear and I wake up a second later. I've been told that if I die in my dreams, I die in real life... |

So if you die in a dream and find yourself in Heaven, are you still dreaming? |

It isn't true. I tested that in a dream by jumping off a building. I felt the impact (no pain and I felt myself squish) I then kind of blackebd out in the dream and slowly regained conciousness as I felt my body pull itself back together. I got up out of the cracked and blood soaked concrete and all these people stood around staring at me. I just shrugged at them and said "Hey its just a dream." |

I like telling people in my dreams that they don't exist. They always react funny. |

I skipped through it again last night with the director's commentary (borrowed it from the library, have to return it today), and I decided that my favorite part was the B-2 carpet bombing. But watching the ending again, plus two alternate endings, was actually kind of emotionally hard, now that I knew what was coming. But, in general, I like the lack of closure, I think it worked pretty well for this film. You want closure (or, heck, even backstory) you can go online and dig. Not sure about the parasites, though. They drop off and ... attack people? That doesn't seem terribly biologically consistent, in terms of parasite behavior. I still do not know if I like this movie. I have owned it since the day it came out. And I still think parts of it are crappy. |

I generally hate movies where the main characters all or mostly die. There are occasional exceptions. |

For the very small sub-genre of horror movies filmed in supposedly hand held shaky video-cam because the camera is found after everyone is dead, it was okay. I don't care for the sub-genre though. |

This was one of those rare movies where I actively wanted everyone in it to die. Hah, I can see that. They were all pretty vapid. The question is ... are they really vapid, and were just being themselves? Or were they acting well enough to make us believe they could be that vapid and stupid? It's like William Hurt in Altered States. I hated him in that movie and couldn't wait for him to suffer and die. I'm still undecided as to whether or not it's because his acting was effective, or because he's just insufferable. Numbuk wrote: I still want to see this. Sheesh, and I thought I was LTTP. You don't have kids, man, you have no excuse! It's worth seeing, I think. Will be curious to see what you think if you ever pick it up. Don't read the spoilers above, however ... |

I enjoyed it. One of the reasons the oceans scare the living **** out of me(not that I wasn't already afraid of the ocean to begin with before even hearing about this movie). There's no telling what we might find in the deepest parts of the ocean. |

There's no telling what we might find in the deepest parts of the ocean. The ocean? I thought the characters were relatively true to life and if you ignore the fact that it is a camera and take it from a first-person POV movie it was very good. I think that the addition of actual special effects and editting really brought this sub-genre to its fullest potential. |

Thanks to Aethien's WLTTP-ness, I watched this last night. It was pretty good. I'm with Timmit on the characters. Although I may have been biased by reading the comments, I began hoping that some of them would die after the first 10 minutes of inane chatter. After the ground started shaking, it was pretty good. I'd like to see a sequel from the soldiers' point of view. |

Quote: The ocean? Yeah, that's where the monster came from. When the satellite fell(you can see it at the very end of the movie), it woke the monster up and it came to land to cause all sorts of trouble. The fact of the matter is, there's no telling what lurks in the deepest parts of the ocean. There very well could be a giant monster down there waiting for us. Hence my fear of oceans. |

I assumed that was a cover story and the actual thing that crashed into the sea was Cloverfield |
