Considering there's no threads or mention of it here.. I liked it. Pushes Ellen Page's range a bit from the hyper-self aware teens she's played previously (though, I think she's probably doomed to play a high schooler for another few years at the least) and seemed fairly strong for Drew Barrymore. The characterizations were warm and engaging, and really defined the movie for me. Anybody else like it? |

Sheesh, I thought you were referring to the Devo song, and meant that you had never heard it. There's a movie?! |

The movie is about a young woman discovering the revival of Roller Derby as an outlet to express herself while stuck in a boring small town. It is named for what is (apparently) one of the classic moves in roller derby, The Whip, by which one skater sacrifices momentum to pull a skater behind them forward, giving the second a burst of speed. |

Oh, oh, that flick. Heard of it, didn't recall the name. Might have to check it out, as I was actually quite the roller derby fan when I was a kid. Even got to see it live one time. I clearly remember a woman flying out of the rink and cracking her head on the cement arena floor in front of us. That was cool. |

Can't stand the girl that is in it, nor can I stand Drew Barrymore. It just looked bad. |
