Usually, this is a matter of having it in cache, while the site in question prevents hotlinking. On the computer you originally viewed the image (from the host site directly), you have it in cache, so it works because your computer doesn't request it as a hotlinked image, and get served the "you have deigned to steal bandwidth from us, now we will thwart you!" replacement image.
