I just finished watching 10th Doctor's regeneration... and the ending was so bittersweet and wonderful, it heartened me to see it.

Anyone else in love with the David Tennant version of the Doctor?

I am nervous about the new guy, but excited nonetheless by what is to come.

Is it that time already?

I <3 David Tennant. Sad to see him go.

I'm not familiar with any of the doctors. Is there anywhere I should start (or not start)?

Well, you could go completely old school and start off with the original Doctor, which started in 1963. That's a lot of time to invest though, if you want to start off with the new series start with Christopher Eccelston's Doctor that began in 2005. He played the Doctor for 1 season, then David Tennant came on board.

Definitely think Tennant was one of if not the best Doctor. I really liked how he play him. I'm also not to sure about this next guy. Seems like he could be good, but . . .

Tom Baker is the Doctor for me, but you folks can like who you want.

Tom Baker is the most likely name to be raised when you say 'Doctor Who?' but Peter Davison had an interesting run from what I remember of it.

I honestly think posterity will put Tennant ahead of Davison and alongside Baker.

As far as Doctors go, you can start with Eccleston and get to Tennant and only be a little worse for not having known all the lore.

Netflix Instant Queue ftw for Series 1-3. 4 and 5 are pretty good, but my favorite Who episode of late was Blink from Series 3.

Most episodes are self-contained and need little back story. It's the times when he regrets things, which doesn't really start until Series 3, that you need to worry about the past because much of the lore was shelved between 7th and 9th Doctors and how we go from 8th to 9th was done offscreen.

Yup I'm a big Baker fan myself. K-9, his series of companions - his carefree manner. Awesome.

Thank you for sharing that. I hadn't seen that.

However, I've noticed that Doctor is spelled out in regards to The Doctor almost without exception.

I wonder if it's a British thing or a sign of respect?

Start with new Who (Chris Eccleston as the Doctor) reasonable stories, better production standards and some decent actors ...

Also, all 4 seasons of the new Dr. Who are available on Netflix Instant Watch now, so that helps.

Tom Baker was my first doctor, but if you're just starting, start with the ninth Doctor (Eccleston). If you decide you like the re-booted Who, then maybe go back and catch up with the earlier ones.

Favorite ones (in order): Tennant, Eccleston, Baker, Pertwee, Davison.

I'm also a bit leary about the new guy. Tennant's Doctor will be hard to live up to. But the new showrunner is Steven Moffat, who wrote all the Hugo award winning episodes for the re-booted Doctor Who. Category: Best Dramatic Presentation (short form).

Series One: The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
Series Two: The Girl in the Fireplace
Series Three: Blink
Series Four lost to Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog (and who can argue with that?)

I'll keep tuning in though. I didn't think I'd like the 'new' Doctor when Eccleston left, so I'm trying not to pre-judge.

Yeah. She's awesome.

I wish I had access to BBC America through some route other than buying episodes on Amazon, however.

9th Doctor - Clive Eccleston, Companion: Rose Tyler, Captain Jack Harkness
10th Doctor - David Tennant, Companions: Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, Captain Jack Harkness, Astrid Perth, Lady Christina de Souza, Wilfred Mott, others - *River Song
11th Doctor - Amy Pond - *River Song

Spoiler:
River killed the Doctor. Almost certain of that after her handling with 11th Doctor. Also certain she loved him like few others.
