Also, I haven't answered, yet; consequently, I'm curious as to who ponied up the Fifth.

I'm fairly certain picking the Fifth is neither pedestrian nor disallowed. I'm simply curious as to who picks what ...

I expect a heavy predilection for 3, 5 and 9.

After reading (by reading I mean skimming real quick) analyses of all nine symphonies, I am leaning toward voting the third.

I should listen to it sometime.

I would suggest listening to them all, particularly those lesser recognized entries.

In all honesty, it's been too long since I've listened to any of them to remember one from another.

In general I'm more a fan of Bach.

I'm a fan of his second symphony; the critics hating it (at the time) probably has something to do with it.

I went with the 9th, though I do really like the 7th. I just really love the choral parts in the 9th.

I don't really have a preference among his symphonies, not having listened all that closely. I could easily identify the 9th upon hearing it, the others i'd probably recognize as Beethoven and that's about it. But the aforementioned Moonlight Sonata may very well be the most beautiful composition I've ever heard.

I'm not well versed in all of his works, but I like the 5th and 7th. It's hard to beat the finale of the 9th though.
I'm with Taly on Piano Sonata 14.

I'm not going to vote. I'm only familiar with the fifth. I've heard most of the others, but not all of them and I don't know them well enough to identify them by sound.

And Taskiss beat me to the pun.

That made it easy, Aegnor, thanks.

#7 it is, past the far more commonly known 5th and 9th.

Also, if you like Beethoven's music, and haven't watched it, I heartily recommend Gary Oldman's great performance in Immortal Beloved.

Thank you Aegnor, as Talya said, that made it a lot easier.

Amusingly, as I was listening to them I realized that my mother used to play various Beethoven symphonies (she had, probably still has, a lot of those old musical collections of classical music on vinyl) when she cleaned house. We couldn't watch TV while she was cleaning house. Go outside and play or help were our options.

Anyway, while I enjoyed them all, I prefer six, not sure why, it just made me smile more.

The 6th and the 8th are my favorites, although a good interpretation of the 5th is always welcome. I chose the 8th, if only because it's not firmly linked with any piece of cinema. I can't listen to the 6th without picturing Edward G. Robinson on his death bed. And the 9th is accompanied by Alex smacking Dim with his cane.

The 8th, I can actually enjoy on its own, creating my own images as I listen to it.

Shall we do Mozart next?! I'm quite partial to No. 41, but can't honestly say I've listened to all of them. Maybe half.

damn you for making me choose. :) I chose the 9th, but it is really hard to say that I like any particular piece more than another when it comes to Ludwig Van.

What piece was he playing in the mall in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure? I really liked that one.

#5 hands down.

What can I say, I'm a product of Warner Bros. and Bugs.
