Played by Andrew Garfield of The Social Network (which I watched last night...fantastic). Not that it's in any way relevant to me, but this version of Spidey is supposed to have artificial web-shooters. Attachment: SpideyGarfieldsm.jpg [ 38.89 KiB | Viewed 2106 times ] |

Interesting. I like his build better than Tobey's. Tobey's shoulders were broader. Artificial shooters gets a thumbs-up from me. I don't have a strong preference either way, but Peter's supposed to be a science whiz, and that's really where that gets reflected. It also gives some nice slow tension builds, being broke from funding the fluid and running low. |

Yay! Artificial web shooters for the win! |

Gah. Conflicted. On the one hand, i despise that they are "rebooting" this franchise a mere decade after it started. It seems like a pathetic money grab, from a series that has already raked in two billion dollars. On the other hand, the previous line of movies wasn't that good to start with. Spiderman 1 was decent, but not great. Spiderman 2 was really lacking. Spiderman 3 was...really bad. And this one...it really seems like they might be fixing the mistakes of the first. |

Really? I recall contentions that Spiderman 1 and 2 were the best superhero movies ever made. |

I must admit I did like them. But the more I watched them(and then when 3 came out) the more I disliked them. 3 probably did a lot more harm than anything, though. |

It was only the second superhero movie to take itself seriously enough. It's only competition was the less than spectacular X-Men movie. If nobody had ever made Spider-man 2 and 3, Spider-man 1 would probably be a clear winner between the two. The second and third movies make the mistakes in the first (such as the casting) more obvious. (But at least they didn't use Halle Berry.) At the very least we have to thank X-Men and Spider-man movie franchises for paving the way for Chris Nolan's Batman franchise, or Marvel's Ironman/Hulk/Thor/Cap line of linked movies. They proved there was a market for movies that took the source material seriously. (And Spider-man, at least, proved it in a very big way, to the tune of excellent reviews and $821 million dollars.) |

I thought Spiderman 1 was a mediocre film. I thought Spiderman 2 was laughable. Spiderman 3 was pathetic. I wanted to stop watching halfway through. I like the look of the new Spiderman. I sort of hope he's bitten by a radioactive spider as well. The original Spiderman was cheesy, but fun. The original movies tried to match the cheesiness, but it just didn't work for me. |

As I said, if nobody had ever made Spider-man 2 and 3, Spider-man 1 would probably never have gotten tiresome for me. Even at the theatre, spiderman 2 bugged me from the moment they made Doc Oc into a sympathetic character, or had spidey losing his powers at random. Spiderman 3 was...really really bad. The sequels also made it very clear that it was poorly cast from the start. While I didn't mind the first one, it really didn't hold up over time. Quote: I like the look of the new Spiderman. Cheese is what we want to avoid, here. No regressing to 60's through 90's treatment of superhero movies. |

I thought the first Spiderman, in terms of telling the story of how he became Spiderman was very good. Beyond that it was a mediocre action flick. |

I just watched Spiderman with my five year-old niece. By the scene with Macy Gray, she had figured out several key points (in order): 1) Peter Parker likes Mary Jane 2) Spiderman's web is the coolest thing ever 3) Peter Parker is Spiderman 4) Green Goblin is the bad guy 5) She wanted to see Spiderman punch Green Goblin in the face My niece was very clear and articulate about point #5. Overall, I'd say that's a strength of the movie that it managed to properly convey all of those elements to a child. She was also very impressed with Spiderman dropping a wall on Green Goblin. |

Holy crap! Emma Stone is Gwen Stacy! Thanks, Raell, for the link via AICN. |

I hope this doesn't mean we are getting the Green Goblin again. As much as I like the Green Goblin, there are about 90 million other villains I'd like to see. Also, that costume is **** terrible. It's mostly the mask, but I'm not digging the spider on either side. The gloves kinda bug me as well. |

I doubt we'll see the Goblin yet. Maybe next movie. You've got to give Gwen some development time. |

Topher Grace has no been cast as Peter Parker; I therefore find it difficult to make myself care. |

Eric from That 70's Show, or Eddie Brock from Spider-Man 3. Landing Eddie probably nixxed any chance of getting cast as Peter in the reboot. Besides, he's too old, now. |
