So I finally have worked my way through most of Third Rock from the Sun. I loved this show when it first came out and got out of watching it so I missed all of the Shatner episodes.

Best line in the whole series:

Big Giant Head: [Played by William Shatner] It was a horrible flight! There was a man on the wing of the plane!
Dick Solomon: [Played by John Lithgow] The same thing happened to me!

I particularly enjoyed the episode where they went to the sci fi convention and Dick tried to tell Mary he was an alien, and she confided that she was fat.

I am fairly upset that they removed a lot of the scenes that played after the credits. Specifically, during the final episode of the entire series.

Spoiler:
In the netflix version (possibly the dvd version too?) Dick wipe's Mary's memories of him so she won't be hurt that he's gone. They all beam up to their spaceship and leave Mary down below.

BUT....... when it originally aired...... after the credits rolled the camera came back upon a confused Mary getting into the car. And she's ready to drive away, a naked Dick Solomon beams back down next to her and says something to the effect of, "Oh who am I kidding?!" and the naked Dick and Mary both beam up to the spaceship together, with a horrified look on Mary's face.

But yeah, it's a good show. Still gets a laugh out of me today. Johnathan Lithgow is a great entertainer and actor. It's fun watching him in 3rd Rock, and then seeing him in Dexter.

Fun trivia that I know about: The darker haired student in Dick's class (Leon, I think?) is John Lithgow's son.

Edit:
Spoiler:
This was from a 3rd Rock site talking about the finale. "An alternate ending was filmed just in case NBC decided to renew the show at the last minute (though it was considered highly doubtful). It was reportedly filmed several days after the taping of the series finale. In an additional scene, Mary wakes up soonafter the aliens have beamed away. She gets up and sits in the driver’s seat of the Rambler. Dick suddenly appears in the passenger seat, fully naked. Mary’s astonished and asks who he is. Dick says that he couldn’t leave her, hugs Mary, looks up and screams “Alien abduction! Alien abduction!”. The two are beamed away, leaving the empty car behind. The scene is included on the sixth season DVD set."

But I know for a fact this actually aired. I witnessed it. I had no knowledge of this beforehand. I feel it's a better ending to the show, as it ends with the trademark bit of humor and you know that Dick and Mary will be ok in the end.
